Re: Truck Died
The thing that I disliked about Florida the most was too many trees. I like some open spaces & a good view. In the 80's one of the bars in Gainesville would have a midget tossing contest. The point of a PCV valve & the valve cover breather arrangement is partially to allow for the pressure changes i...

Re: Truck Died
And yes the hose from base of the carburetor should go to a PCV valve at the valve cover & larger hose from black breather canister should connect to air cleaner/breather housing. PCV valves became common (required?) in cars in 1966. Possibly on gas powered light duty trucks then too.

Re: Truck Died
JohnB I am somewhat familiar with the area. I lived west of Alachua behind Sante Fe HS back in 87-89 & worked briefly at a pipe plant (it's gone now) in Newberry. Later I worked for Ray's Metal Works at the GE/Gates battery plant (it's closed too) on 441 east of Alachua. My dad worked at the Carlon ...

Not alot of places to pull over in Alachua County either. Those roads have NO shoulder, or they didn't 35 years ago.

Re: Spare Tire Mount in the Bed
Would keeping the under bed set-up be better if some sort of cranking lift cable was utilized? My Astro van has one & haven't had any issues with it, although my spare is not that large.

Re: Steering Column rebuild and Turn Signal Switch replacement
There is a guy (Dodgeboys) on the ramcharger site who has every FSM imaginable. Often if you post your question, he will post up the diagram you need. He also sells FSM in hard copy or pdf form.

I believe our 71 Chrysler 300 had it. I had a 79 truck with it too. I don't recall any of my other 70s trucks having it.

Re: 1965 tilt steering
From what I have read Dodge didn't offer tilt steering column in trucks until late 1970s, and those were Saginaw GM.

Re: 1972 D500 front brake parts
Patrick66 on this forum recently redid the brakes on a 300 series truck and said it was not cheap. Maybe you could PM him about where he sourced his wheel cylinders from. Hopefully the company would be able to come up with D500 brake parts.

Welding is best.
Some have had success using fiberglass, but to me it's less durable & just as tedious.
I'm not a big fan of trim myself.

NV4500 is a 5 speed. 4th is direct, 5th is OD.

Re: 383 to nv4500
You may want to search not only here but some of the other truck forums. Your dilemma is that transmission was never offered behind a big block engine, therefore no bellhousing exists. You might could take a big block bellhousing intended for the NP435 or more likely A833 4 speed & fit the NV4500 to...

Re: 1972 D500 front brake parts
The only 5 lug Budd that I am aware of are the D400 trucks & M400 motor homes. I could see the motor homes having front disc brakes.
It being 5 lug probably means those specs I gave in my original post may be invalid.
Square tube rear axle is Rockwell. Standard fare in medium dutys.

Re: 1972 D500 front brake parts
Well I wasn't able to find out anything. No parts numbers & just a couple of diagrams that I wasn't even for certain were for your particular front axle. I believe your D500 shares the same front brake components with the D600 & S600(school bus) provided they are 6 stud Budd style wheels & not the D...

I can't say on D series, but a 68 & earlier W series sits taller than 69.

Re: 1970 Dodge D500 powerwagon
Shims affect both caster & pinion angle.
The proper & most top notch way involves rotating the differential while keeping the knuckles & spring perches the same in relation to the ground. Custom 4x4 shops do this type of thing.

I honestly think any axle can be made to work with any transfer case, just takes some fanaggling to keep angles close enough to eliminate vibrations.

Re: 1970 Dodge D500 powerwagon
What does a 1975 W 600 use? Front discs? divorced transfer case? Would this stuff be too big for a 1 ton? There were two front axles offered in 74-77 W600s. A Dana 70F (6.17 ratio) with drums & the higher capacity Rockwell FDS7500 (6.80 ratio) also with drums. Mine has the Rockwell. Both are consid...

Re: 1970 Dodge D500 powerwagon
The whole pinion angle debate comes from the divorced vs married transfer case set-ups. 74 & back were divorced, meaning it is not bolted directly to the transmission, sets much further back from the front axle, uses a longer front propeller shaft and the axle differential is angled differently than...
