Re: exhaust manifold question

There'a a company called Omix ADA that makes resto parts for old jeeps. Some of their parts work on our mopars. They make a replacement heat riser spring http://www.omix-ada.com/exhaust-manifold-spring-41-53-willys-jeep-models.html not sure if this one will work or not. You might call them and get t...

Re: New Fuel Sender Float

I found a parts store in Tucson called Willy's Works. Is like an old time parts store where they have all the parts on the shelf and the parts guy knows more about them than I do. With the minimum wage kid at O'Rielly's that's never the case! He had a box of different floats for old jeeps, including...

Re: New Fuel Sender Float

Thanks MadMC63. Mustangs! Now that's a great idea.
I've discovered that the Dodge "B" series vans used this same float up till '87. In '88 they went FI and the pickup/ sender changed.

Re: New Fuel Sender Float

True, but plug and play would be my first choice. Took me awhile to get the rheostat working good again, so I don't want to monkey with the arm any more than is absolutely neccessary.

New Fuel Sender Float

My brass float is sitting on the bottom of the tank. I tried to fix it but it's too far gone. I found a plastic float made by OMIX-ADA p/n: 17729.01. Says it's made for old jeeps. Does anyone know if it fits in a mopar sender arm? If not, does anyone know where I can get a plastic one that fits? I s...

[quote The guy was restoring his truck and the Condo association he was living in hauled off his truck while he was on 2 weeks vacation. quote] I would call that theft. If you were parked on common grounds they can legally take the truck if it wasn't being moved every 24 hours. The association woul...

Re: Voltage Regulator keeps Frying!

had the same problem when i first bought my '68 W100. went through 3 new regulators in 3 days. the only points style regulators you can get now are made in china and are pure cheese. took each of the 3 regulators apart after they failed and was the points each time. the two contacts aren't parallel....

Re: Going back to Points

i agree with Walt and John. my '68 W100 (LA318) had a petronix system in it when i bought it. 2nd time i drove it, after about 100 mi it started crapping out and i barely made it to the next off ramp. sat there for 45 min until it cooled down enough to start working again. had to stop and let it coo...

Re: Picking up my new W100

I used to work in a shop and we had this cheby that came in about once a month with the rear u joint out. After about a year I got to thinking that there had to be a cure. Well I found it. You need to check and see where the ground cable from the battery is going to. It should go to the engine, BUT...

Re: detroit 5380 problem

thanks guys! you bring up 2 good points i hadn't considered. keeping the u-joint centered and the brass shims getting pounded. welding the cross ends is an idea. i'd need a surface grinder to keep the ends square to the caps, and that's one toy i don't have.... guess i'll bite the bullet and replace...

detroit 5380 problem

my '68 W100 has detroit 5380 style u-joints. on the rear driveshaft, the inner u-joint snap rings have galled out grooves in both yokes so that there is .015" to .020" free play now between the cross and the caps. i don't like the idea of the driveshaft banging around that much. i know i should repl...

Re: NP435 clutch tool

thanks John. i've always wondered about that. my A833 thinking (hemi 18 spline vs. regular 23) is what got me thinking heavy duty vs. light duty controls spline count. never would have guessed was a model year production change. i'll bet those bigger splines are more expensive to make, hence the cha...

Re: NP435 clutch tool

thanks Jim. that's an idea! maybe chuck it up in the drill press and turn it like a vertical wood lathe. that should keep the pilot end concentric to the o.d. i may never waste time trying to find another one of these lol.

Re: What the heck is this attached to my generator?

Nice pics! thanks for posting them. that's something i've never seen before. most bizarre. "Generator Control Unit" = voltage regulator (see how it's rated at 14 volts), so might be used with an alternator. the unit looks pretty small for a 60 amp generator. maybe it's an early model alternator and ...

NP435 clutch tool

I had problems finding the 1" x 10 spline x 3/4" pilot clutch alignment tool. (p/n: TAT5349) It's made by Pioneer Automotive Industries, Meridian, MS. I think they've stopped making it, and it's gone obsolete. Pioneer's catalog has it incorrectly listed as 383 only with 318's listed as 23 splines. M...

i've only seen 1 turquoise poly. years ago when i worked in the snow cat shop at keystone colorado, one of the apprentices showed up one day with an old convertible 63-64 fury he had just bought. it had a turquoise poly 318. the guy he bought it from told him it was an old 440. told him "you can tel...

Re: New Intake

hi jimharold i have a '68 W100 with a 318. when i first bought it, it had a single plane edelbrock 4bbl manifold with a 650 cfm holley model 4160. i bent up a paperclip so that it just barely hung onto the shaft from the vacuum pod that opens the secondaries. i pushed the paperclip up tight against ...
