Re: cpp power steering issues

Somebody fixed that problem with a bigger pulley on the pump. wouldnt that make it turn even slower? either way, revving the engine does nothing so faster pump rpm doesnt help. the box is just not strong enough for anything but car sized tires. i have had mine installed for a year now. went through...

Re: Heater

Mine was really hard to move. I lubed the whole cable and also took off the front cover and sprayed all over the lever and where the cable attaches. Now it moves freely when the truck is off. Funny thing though, if I have it open (heat on) with the engine running , I can't close it. Like as if the p...

Re: new box power steering

it's a small box with a quick ratio...I did not expect the world out of it. I was looking for a direct bolt in box that looked factory. The steering is still worlds better than the factory manual box was. Absolutely better! But now I can stop going through pumps and tweaking the preasure. CPP said ...

Re: new box power steering

Well, that makes at least 3 of us. Troubleshooting is over, the steering box has to be the issue. I would say that either there is an inconsistency in production or those with smaller tires and can turn at a stop must be right at its limit.

Re: new box power steering

Hey Kurt- I see you have a crew cab too. Without going back and rereading this whole thread, do I remember right in that you adapted a pitman arm from another kit that was shorter then what comes in the kits now? After tinkering again with it today, bumping my pump pressure up to it's max and notici...

Re: new box power steering

Thanks Kurt. I guess without a gauge there is no way to know what pressure the pump is putting out. But 2 pumps act the same way. As far as a restriction, I guess it could be restricting to the bottom end of the needed psi, but the power works 1 finger easy as soon as I roll the tinyest bit. I'll ca...

Re: new box power steering

I got my kit installed in my 68 w200 crew cab. Installation was easy. I have a rebuilt later style Saginaw pump. The one with the bolt on pulley rather then press on. First go I couldn't get it to turn the wheels on the ground. Lifted up everything was smooth and no binding. On the ground it would b...

Re: Drivetrain question.

Did you check that there isn't still a little metal tag hanging from a bolt on the front or rear diff? It will say what gears if so. My rear was gone but front was there labeled 4.09 which means the rear is 4.10

Re: carb help please

Thanks for the help. The manual for my year truck lists carter BBS, but after your suggestion that it might be a BBD I am pretty sure it is from looking at pics of carbs and kits. Ordered a kit, fingers crossed.

Thanks again

carb help please

68 w200 with a 318 but I believe the engine is a 78... I was just trying to find a carb rebuild kit using numbers from the side because while it does seem to run good, it hesitates a bit sometimes. But looking online I'm thinking maybe this isn't the right carb. Is it from the slant 6 my vin says it...

Re: 1968 repair manual

Concerning wiring: 1968 was the year the Fed required side marker lights on most vehicles. 68 wire have a tad few more wires on the diagrams. Bucky Hmm, mine doesn't have side marker lights, just a reflector that I thought was added by someone at some point. I ordered the 67 manual. I actually foun...

looking at ebay, it appears there was never really am OEM manual for the 1968, but a supplement to the 67 model. i have a chilton, but as im sure you know it leaves everything you really need out somehow, lol. i guess im being cheap since apparently there is enough info to fill a supplement but what...

Re: closed knuckle leak

I just had mine all apart and installed new seals but no sealant on those matting surfaces. But I am using 00 grease that does not leak as easily. Could also be a loose or broken bolt(s) that holds the spindle to the knuckle. There is a bushing inside the spindle that would keep most oil out of the...

Re: brake hose help please!

I had to use Brake Best BH4751 (same as NAPA 32102) . It's about 4" longer than what every parts store lists as the correct part. Don't know why... This hose runs from the frame (the larger end with the female thread) directly to the wheel cylinder - I don't have any hard line as you described. I h...
