Re: SIDs, springwedge spacer and power steering
For what it's worth, my '64 factory power steering truck had the shims mounted thicker side in the back, and had factory inspection marks that indicate it was that way originally. But regardless, measuring the angle is the only way to go, too many variables on a 50 year old vehicle.

Re: Front end rebuild part numbers/prices
Yes the kit I bought came with new retaining bolts, but they are about 1/4-3/8 too long. Much longer than the original. So I reused my original bolts just to have it look better. I think other people have had the same problems with most kingpin kits. Yep I think all of the kits do. I think they sto...

Re: Solid vs. Flex lines
yeah cunifer lines are great - really only downside (other than extra cost) is they have a copper-ish appearance, but if you have lots of free time you can polish 'em with Brasso so they are almost silver.

Re: New member intro and Wheel spacing advice
Not sure on the back, but on the fronts anything over 4" backspacing will rub the tie rods. There's a few older threads here that talk about it in more detail.

Re: CPP Steering Input
I've got most of it installed (easy) and started buttoning mine back up this weekend, hopefully wheels down in a few days more as I get time. One thing to note is since the column is moved down and inboard about 1/2", the old firewall seal won't really fit. I punched a new one out of 1/8" nitrile ru...

Re: Need tie rod ends for 63 d100
Ouch. yeah my parts book but it only goes to 68, but it's the same part number for the tie rod for all of 61-68. Power steering trucks have a different number which seems odd to me. But the ends are the same regardless.

Right: MOOG ES140R or ACDELCO 45A0022
Left: ACDELCO 45A0021 (Moog part is disco'd, although you can find them on eBay or whatnot.)
Rareparts makes these too I think, but more $$
Sorry not sure if the rod itself is the same across all years of swepties. How badly was it bent?

Correct, as far as I know, no one makes the originla type shackes, but there are posts here about how you can find the individual parts and DIY - http://www.sweptline.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=34015&p=246344 I have a extra pair of new Eaton shackles with newer-style steel & rubber bushing, but...

Re: Power assist control box issue
Assuming you mean the drag link (bolts onto the front of the control valve), p/n 2227303. To a certain degree that is kinda how it is supposed to work (the ram just pushes and pulls the tie rod), however if that ball joint is so worn if just flops around (or worse, in danger of popping out), that's ...

Yeah hopefully that drag link is not worn beyond use. NOS supply is long gone and no repro on that.

Re: Power assist control box issue
You have factory power steering, not the new CPP box, correct? If the steering box itself is sloppy, the Saginaw ones can be rebuilt - Bud Thorp here does them. If you mean the ball joint at the end of the drag link (where it connects to the steering arm), good luck - good power steering drag links ...

Re: front axle re&re
I'd agree with the last post, popping the drag link from the steering arm with a puller was difficult. But with a little heat it ended up coming out with a light tapping. Otherwise it was mostly just dealing with 50 years of grease and crud on everything. It's not as heavy as you might think. Mine l...

Re: removing king pins
I got the ball-bearing type from NAPA, other places (like rockauto) only seem to carry the washer type. They all seem to be made by the same mfr, Clevis or someone like that. One thing I noted is that the locking bolts they supply in these are too long and the head is too big (at least for my D100 r...

Good to know, thanks. I'm assuming that was a universal joint, which would also improve safety.

Sorry I was thinking RB. Yes that was most commonly found on the early 383's. Used '62 - '66 (maybe '67). Not super common these days, but they also aren't much sought after by the hi-po market.
