Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

Thanks for getting back! I think the head gaskets are in good shape- but a valve is a real possibility. Compression test?

Re: Transmission Issue

Keep us updated, and good luck! Thanks for sharing. Had this problem like 30 years ago and honestly can't remember the fix (was a Pontiac, though).

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

Methinks the board here knoweth much!!!! I'll be damned, it was the tranny! Fluid leaked out due to a bad gasket, so I replaced the transmission pan gasket, and will refill in the morning. I was also reading the level COLD, instead of at idle....dumb me! Cheap fix it should be! Also got the fan belt...

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

I'll verify tomorrow, but we actually tried to stop the driveshaft, and no dice. Speeds up when I rev it, rear end does NOTHING until it really revs, then slowly turns, but will not turn fast at all. Will check again tomorrow to be sure. I'm 90% sure it's NOT the transmission.......but I've been wro...

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

Hmmmm, ok..... so the auto trans could be it...... But again- the drive shaft spins FINE, with acceleration, and is turning like crazy, while the wheels do nothing until I REALLY give it some gas. Even so, I can stop the tire with my foot. Could the axles be shot? With the driveshaft spinning and no...

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

The transmission is good and the driveshaft spins freely. All the gears work and it shifts fine. Just the darndest thing to see driveshaft spinning wheels not moving

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

It is an automatic and not a standard. I certainly would rather just replaced the Gutzon the pumpkin then getting a whole new rear end. I'll do what I have to though. Will a Chevy or ford rear end fit in it? I don't care, I just want it on the road

Re: Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

Thanks for the replies. Specifically it's a 1971 Dodge D 100 With the 318. I had to give it tons of gas in order for it to get moving when in gear. I put the rear wheels up in the air on a jack and hit the gas and the wheels would hardly move unless I really gunned it. My friend could actually hold ...

Rear end is shot. Anyone have suggestions??

So it turns out the rear end is shot on my 71 Dodge D 100 with a 318. It has stock 3.23 gears. I'd like to keep it the same. Anyone know anyone with a rear end and or alternative swaps get me where I need to go?

Have to really slam gas to get the truck to move?

Well, I finally got the old girl going. Got the brakes all rebuilt and the engine running good. Took her for the first test ride, and you absolutely have to REV the gas while in gear to get the vehicle to move. The brakes aren't sticking, and the differential seems fine, so I'm guessing transmission...

Re: Carb overhaul- any tips and tricks?

Don't assume that your carb is the original one on the truck. Mine sure wasn't and I got the wrong rebuild kit. Get a small table and drape a white towel over the top of it. Make index card notes and place them next to every part grouping. The towel is so things don't go rolling away. Rebuild diagra...

Re: Power brake booster

Part number I'll have to look up on the order sheet, but I got the last one. I don't think mine was the original as it matched up to the one shown on a 72. I have a 71. It fit just fine. Master cylinders are like $20, don't bother with rebuilds or junkyards.

I found one on Rock Auto for $73! The one that I had on was actually from a 72, so I'm guessing it was not a factory install....

Re: New bed ideas wanted!

Never heard of Kenny before this post, THANKS!!!! I will be using him for a lot of stuff in the future. He does have the 8' bed for $450- a great deal, but I'm waaaayyyy too cheap.....I'll probably just do wood panels. Now just how to attach everything.......anyone ever do this?

Thanks!
