the most rust areas are the floor under your feet , the step area both sides , around the top of windshield area , & the sides of the body crowl , bottom of doors where the meet in the step area 's ,& the lower part of door skins

trey can tell you how to clean the carb better then I can , I did fine that if you take the out side return spring loose it idels better but a bit high , trey removed the choke , & it never needed it here ,But like I told you I was leaving her set to long &only got to drive it around the block once ...

The 8 1/4 are good & will hold up to the 360 , as for the /6 a 3;55 will work real good or a 3;23

I would look for a mid 70's to mid 80's 3/4 ton donor truck & swap the bodys

Scott sound's like you had a surge of power , you'll have to trace the wires & see where it started at , I would put a in line fuse in & rewire all the burnt wireing solder & heat sherk it in double check you V regulater & alt to make sure there not the bad guys here ,& if you have any wire running ...

If A auto trans check the fluid sounds low , id standerd double check your clutch adjustment
