Re: The stuff you do when you really should be doing other things

I realized after I wrote that, I worded it wrong. It was generally ok until people added a bunch of different loads to the system, then the wire gauge wasn't large enough to handle the current draw. With the current demands of today's vehicles, they couldn't use an actual ammeter. Some will give cur...

Re: The stuff you do when you really should be doing other things

Your upgrade looks very good. Yes, touchy subject the amp gauge is. Yet most of the proponents for the amp gauge have a newer daily driver that has a volts gauge. If you have seen an alternator fail in a newer vehicle, the volts gauge drops to battery voltage telling you that there is a problem. An ...

Re: NP201 Twin Stick Question

My plan is to make a plastic strip with a set of grooves on either side of the strip for the plastic to slide in. Two with one for each stick sliding over one another. It's what they've been using in automatic shifters for a long time. Should seal ok, and the shifters only move a couple inches.

The hydrobell starter came from eBay, there was a guy building a different nose for the magnum type starter. Not sure if he is still making it.

Re: Engine turns over, but wont start

Find a schematic of the orange box, make sure it's right. Buy yourself a coil that is good for constant 12v, toss the ballast, it was an old idea that was designed to keep points alive, without the points, an 8v coil is a detriment. Check your base timing, the slot in the distributor drive angles to...

Buy the new planetary type from the magnum motors. Much less draw and faster crank speed. Plus about half the weight.

Re: 69 swept line long box to short box conversion

The shape of the later frame doesn't lend well to the cab either. I put my Fargo on an 81 frame, I channeled the cab so it would sit down over the frame, then you'll need to modify the rad support, the frame widths are different at the front. From seeing your skillset, you can handle it, I just know...

Re: 69 swept line long box to short box conversion

If you are using a 78 frame, depending on what you doing with your cab, the shape of the frame over your differential will have you make the bed floor about 2 inches higher than it was before.

Re: 3 Speed Question

I rebuilt one recently for a customer of mine. His was a long shaft 67 and the internals were junk. I had one from a 63, short with the brake. All the internals were the same, only the output shaft was different. Fortunately, his output shaft was usable, and I built it from there. Bought a bearing k...

Re: Automatic Truck Details

The 518 is identical for everything linkage related to a 727, manual linkage and TV linkage swap either way without issue. Yes, it hooks up great. You need the TV linkage on all torqueflite trans.

Re: Automatic Truck Details

With the 66-68 shifter, 518 works fine but you'll need the correct linkage that goes on the trans. This has a non lock 518.

Re: 727 trans help

The next step would be to put a gauge on it. Middle Port on the right side is forward pressure only, there will be no pressure in reverse. It could be that the rooster comb part is loose on the shaft and allowed the manual valve to disengage. If you don't pressure test it, next step is pull the pan ...

Dash color

I know it's been discussed many times, today I bought a 67 D300. Dash is body color with a black dash pad. I read here that 67 should be satin black over body color. Is there any rhyme or reason to changes? I'm wondering what color I should make my project dash. Btw, it looks real good in color. It'...

The early box side is the same 79 inches in length as the later. Stamping appears the same except for the tub is 1 inch further forward. The steps on the early are both 14 3/8 or so in length. The later truck the driver's step goes to about 15 1/2 or so in length. The later box is the same on the pa...

Re: Utiline box changes

The steps are unmolested. I measured where the small tub is inside of the box panel. The 63 box panel is different than the 66 box panel. An inch further ahead. This is contrary to all I've heard about the utilize, but I see no modifications done to the 63.

Utiline box changes

I found an interesting difference in utiline boxes today. The 63 box i have has steps that are the same length. The 66 box i have had unequal length steps, the driver's side being longer. I measured where the fender bolts on, the early one has the fender an inch forward from the later. I previously ...
