Re: Mechanical bell housing throwout lever questions
Now it looks like the T/O bearing is not sitting on the clutch fork correctly I was driving when I felt it go and manage to get it back home. Is it even possible to get the spring back on the fork with out removing tranny? Yes, I believe you can get the spring back on. I was able to do so last summ...

Re: NP540 W. Dual output rear PTO?
PTO's generally have built in flexibility. Just turn them to point a different direction probably wont work, But if you look at them close they can probably be taken apart and reconfigured to point direction you need. If trans has 2, Each one can run independitely of the other. Thanks, sounds like ...

NP540 W. Dual output rear PTO?
Went to my local salvage yard and saw a D600. Believe it is a 73 if the tag/cab is original to the truck. It has a 5 speed which got my interest.. and then I noticed there are 2 PTO shafts coming off the right rear of the transmission to run a crane on the back of the truck. Can this type of PTO be ...

Re: Mechanical bell housing throwout lever questions
BTW - Wildergarten's description on the rod assembly that actuates the clutch fork is for the 69 and later trucks with the mechanical bell. Earlier trucks do not use that complex assembly. Also, the earlier forks pivot on a ball stud, not a slotted angle. Yes thank you. I do not have the truck. I b...

Re: Mechanical bell housing throwout lever questions
The fork is supported by a piece of angle with a slot in it bolted to the bell. The fork has a flat spring clip riveted to the back side that goes through the slot. The clip holds the fork against the edge of the piece of angle such that it forms a fulcrum. The two ends of the fork are cupped such ...

Mechanical bell housing throwout lever questions
I am looking for an understanding of how this throw out bearing is supposed to be aligned by the spring that attaches to the throwout lever? At the moment when the clutch is released the throw out lever gets slack and falls down slightly away from the contact points on the bearing... Will a new spri...

mechanical differences Swepline vs P.G.?
I am under the impression that dodge did not make a lot of mechanical changes between 1957-9 Power Giant trucks, and the early 60's sweptline trucks. Is that even close to being accurate? Mostly in regards to brake components. Any insight is appreciated, on where to find out more information on the ...

Re: W300 Oil pan for a 360LA, do they exist?
I went to the shop that normally balances driveshafts for me and they said that if I had a 360 flywheel to match the balance they could balance the 318 flywheel to match or if I had the specs for the balance on the 360 flywheel that would work too. I took them a large 143 tooth 360 flywheel and the...

Oh Goodie!!! I had no idea. Can you tell me a bit more about how you went about such... Or is it common knowledge at most automotive machine shops?exline wrote:you can have your 318 flywheel rebalanced for the 360. I did this and it cost about $50 at the shop that did mine.

Re: W300 Oil pan for a 360LA, do they exist?
Would a Rear sump work on a Swepty? I was under the impression that they were all front sump... or the 225 slant 6 I have is.. and the 67 318 Poly was as well... But that is the extent of my experience and knowledge... A rear sump will work on a 2wd and may work on the W300. They were all front sum...

W300 Oil pan for a 360LA, do they exist?
I've got a '72 360 that is all ready sitting in the frame of my 62'W300, and swapped in by the previous owner. It has a center sump oil pan, and I am believing that I need a front sump pan to clear the front axle. Is that correct? ARE there any applications that have an oil pan that will work with t...

Re: D600 W/361 bell housing removal question
Am I correct in thinking that the starter off the 361 BB will fit a 360 LA? If not where do I go about freshing up the tired 360 LA starter? Never had one apart, and would like to do this on the cheap as the 360 may be worthless, it has sat outside for 10 years. 90 PSI in the cylinders, but the star...

Is the windshield for this cab available new? If so I will not bother to pull it... BUT if they are not making the curved window any more i may take the time to pull it off if someone thinks it is worth the effort..PwrWgnDrvr wrote: The cabs are based on the Power Giant era

Re: D600 W/361 bell housing removal question
I was thinking that the cab had a Power Giant look to it.. And so I stand corrected: I am wrong to call it a D600. It is a C600 I've seen a few pictures of C series trucks but up until now I did not realize it was a change in model designation, I assumed it was only a change from the sweptline era s...

Re: D600 W/361 bell housing removal question
I believe it is a '72, and I intend to keep pull EVERYTHING I can off this D600 dump truck (with the swing away fenders). I am hopeful that I can pull the starter, generator, Carb, Distributor & ignition components fairly quickly... and then get the Transmission & PTO with what appeared to be an att...
