727 transmission kit.

Any suggestions for a reliable 727 transmission rebuild kit that will be an upgrade over stock for towing? I've found several... Some with green hi energy modules and some Raybestos. Are the green frictions junk and to be avoided or are they ok? Not looking to spend a ton just a reliable tough 727. ...

Hello fellas and gals I'm back. Need direction! 383 help

Ok I'm back long story short I need opinions and guidance. I'm needing to get a truck running. Ones a 70 with a tired 383 and a bad miss no longer runs. The other is a 68 with a 440 and a spun rod bearing. Which is more economical to pursue? I do have heads...rebuilt 516s and a cam that I'm not sure...

Re: What to do with a 440?

The 440 i pulled out of the 76 motorhome i have in my 68 had the pistons .150 in the hole and a funky water pump. With the 213 heads thats a whopping 7.5:1 compression! Torque yup high revving...nope! I'm going to second that rat rod idea!

Re: Charging system help please....!!!

I'll try an get pics up of what i've ran an whats left of the burned up harness. Does anyone know where to find a replacement if i end up needing one? Reading your posts has helped me wire up to this point. It runs and drives at least so that's a start.

Charging system help please....!!!

Long story short my alt fried my wiring up to my amp meter. All three ten gauge wires were burnt so i replaced them. I ran an 8 gauge with a fusible link from the alt to the battery relay on the inner fender and an 8 gauge with a fusible link from the relay into the dash into the main wiring splice ...

Re: rear drum brakes to disc brakes????

there are lots of threads on xj websites...I'd thought id had a dana 30 in the rear turns outbit was an 8 1/4. The hardest part was enlarging the hole in the backing plate to fit.

Re: 440 cam

I went with a 10" ati converter little mushy on the low end but flashes to 3200 rpm or so when you smash the loud pedal. The cam indeed sounds nasty pulls 8" of vacuum idles at 800rpm smooths out around 1800 rpm. Still haven't been able to get rid of the rich idle yet, but now its eating antifreeze ...

I hope she'll be one the road in a year or so. If all else fails... well out goes the 451 from the fury and into the 68 and the 383 from the ...

Re: to 440 or not to 440

I swapped a mid 70's 440 motor home in place of my 318 4spd. Sure puts out alot of torque but definitely low compression, when i pulled my heads to put on 516's my pistons were down .150 in the hole so around 7.8:1 with open chamber heads 8.9:1 with the 74cc closed chambers. I used a late 70's early...

Got the rear jacked up spun the tires and counted revolutions on the diveshaft. I probably have 2.76's in it guess i shouldn't have trusted the guys word when i bought it when he said 8 3/4 rear with 3.23's. Well i guess itl make it easy to retrofit a sermt of disk brakes off the rear of a jeep gran...

The converter is in and i just got it back from the shop. Maybe a little steep a stall but she sure does take off pretty darn fast when it flashes. Have to drive it some more to get a better feel for it.

Re: Progress!

She runs now although a bit doggy on the low end ill say. I'll admit i probably went a bit too large with the cam. Classic rookie mistake, but I'm still sorting out the timing. The 750 street demon wont fit on the stock intake so i used a street dominator i had laying around. The cam doesn't make mu...

Re: Progress!

Finally got a better cam degreeing tool and got it installed! It's amazing what a better quality tool can do to help things along. I still had to retard it to get the numbers close to the cam card but its still advanced at a degree more than they wanted it installed at. I'm hoping the compression fr...
