Likewise. Very cool! :Thumbsup

Hope to see it sometime; maybe at the September Sweptline Cruise in Red Rocks...? I didn't notice it was a Colorado truck the first time around.

Re: 318 Poly Valve Lash Adjustment Options

Valve adjustment done; running like a top! The one noisy Exhaust valve was at .045"! Most everything else was a hair tight, but nothing too outrageous. Approx. 1/8 - 1/4 turn did the trick in most cases. Hardest part was getting the engine bumped around to right places with no remote, and no socket ...

Re: 318 Poly Valve Lash Adjustment Options

Thanks, John. I've been getting a "down for maintenance" page every day since I posted, but obviously the forum was accessible to others. No amount of refreshing, clearing cookies or using different browsers on different machines would get me in. Strange. Anyway... I found this thread: http://sweptl...

318 Poly Valve Lash Adjustment Options

My '63 Service Manual says to adjust valves with the engine hot and running . I've heard of this, but never done it, and it sounds messy and error-prone. I've seen a couple of posts here about doing valve adjustments on static engines with both warm and cold specs. Just wondering what the consensus ...

Re: 5 on 4.5 x 16

My '63 has 'em, and I need to replace my spare at some point as it's badly bent. I haven't spent a lot of time looking yet, but if they're anything like rear brake drums for tapered axles... :pale

Re: kidney slot mags

I've always had a soft spot for slotted mags. Back in '70s when I was building model car kits, they almost all had slotted mags for the custom versions, as did every other car pictured in Street Rodder, and Rod & Custom magazine. When I bought a '73 Datsun 240Z years later, I really wanted to find t...

Re: Need Stromberg WW Jetting Info and Recommendations

No special tools needed. you just need to disassemble the carb to get to the bottom of the main body where the jets are mounted. They're just a threaded brass plug with a screwdriver slot. BTW, Ol roy's runnin' like a champ now. :dance Started right up after just a few seconds of cranking to prime t...

Re: Need Stromberg WW Jetting Info and Recommendations

This Service Manual is worth its weight in gold. :Thumbsup

Stromberg WW3
Main Metering Jet
Standard............. .053"
1 Size Lean.......... .051"
2 Sizes Lean......... .049"

Unless I hear otherwise, I think I'll go straight for the .049s, and see how they work.

Re: Stromberg Accelerator Pump Theory of Operation

Got the accelerator pump squared away this afternoon, but ran out of time to get the linkage hooked up and fire it up before I had to go out for the evening. I started out by pulling the air horn off the carb, and leaving the body on the manifold. As expected, the inside of the carb looked pretty cl...

Need Stromberg WW Jetting Info and Recommendations

There doesn't seem to much of anything about carb jetting on the forum for either Carters or Strombergs. A quick Google search indicates I can get different jets for the WW, but I haven't researched enough to determine what's stock for a '63 318 Poly or what would work well at higher altitudes. Anyo...

Re: Stromberg Accelerator Pump Theory of Operation

I got a kit from NAPA a few days ago. Just waiting for the sunny weekend to pull the carb and open it up. The kit instructions show three versions of the accelerator pump linkage, one of which has only the upper clip and no bowl vent - just like mine. So I think the primary issue is just a tight, gu...

Re: Question for Colorado residents

Yes, 97 Cwt. (hundredweight) would be 9700 pounds using the "short hundredweight" definition, but I think that's load carrying capacity as opposed to vehicle weight. I don't have my title yet, but I expect it to show a CWT/CAP/SIZE of 10 for a half-ton pickup.

Re: Stromberg Accelerator Pump Theory of Operation

1. you need a clip in the top grove, above the lever,so it pulls the plunger up. You also need a clip in the middle groove under the lever and the steel and felt washer. The bore needs to be smooth and free of varnish. the port in the bottom needs to be clear. If I remember right there is a check bal...

Stromberg Accelerator Pump Theory of Operation

Okay, I'm usually pretty good at figuring out how things work, but it gets difficult when they're assembled wrong and/or not working right in the first place... I uploaded a link to Carter BBD carburetor manual a while ago, expecting that my '63 318 Poly would have one of those, but based on diagram...

Rapid Roy Rides Again!

Here's a shot of "Roy", the '63 Ute out on his maiden (master?) voyage, posing for his close-up at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post. Maybe I should have shot him from the sunny side, and I meant to get the American flag in the shot, but you get the picture. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/24...
