timing chain / oil pan sequence

I have both the oil pan and timing chain cover removed. 65 Slanty 6 225.

Is it better to install the timing cover THEN the pan? I'm concerned about getting the front corners with those big fat rubber wedges to seal properly.

thanks

Re: Newbie - - Wheel Info

You may have to search to find what others are running. sorry...I'm kinda in the same boat. I have a 65 that came with 70's mopar 15x7 steelies. I think they are 4.25" BS. I'll have to check. I think that the 60s stock C body cars came with 15x6 with 3.75 BS. maybe that will work? As far as Scarebir...

Re: Eaton Springs

really weird all the differences on 3 vs 5 leaf fronts....flat vs. arched stockers. My STOCK D100 front 65 with 225 is a 4 leaf. The have a pretty good arc...maybe 4" unloaded, as they sit on the bench. But installed with weight, they are almost flat. I have a replacement set that has 4 leafs (1 lea...

going with Pennzoil synchro for manual transmissions........I don't want to throw GL-5 in the trans. I'm also not very confident in motor oil, although I know some mfr. actually recomend it!

A745 Lube - - again...

65 A745 3 spd. manual. 1 line in the FSM says 80-90, another says ATF. whats the consensus??? either / or? I'm in a moderate climate: 20 deg. F to 100 deg. F. If 80-90. what service? GL-5? (heard its bad on brass synchro)....or GL-4 service????? I think my early 65 is a non-sychro (at least 1st gear...

king pin ball bearing

I have my kingpin ball bearing kit in hand. the bearing does't seem to come apart, yet it is dry....
The inner edges seem to be curved, making it resist coming apart.

Do they come apart to be lubricated????? if not, how do you grease them???

Re: what kingpin kit?

WTF: why isn';t anything easy. I just opened my parts from Rockauto. AC Delco 45F0044 kit. listed for 2500 and 2800 lb. axles. but it didn't list a pin diameter......... I just measured the new kingpin. .8725 Isn't that the pin size for the 2200 lb axle? snip: .8725" X 5.375"; 2200 Lb Axle WTF????? ...

Re: what kingpin kit?

Axle apart, kingpins out. every thing nice and clean and awaiting some new pins and bushings. I made a couple of calls; I need the new bushings installed and reamed to size. Specialty spring shop: $100 Engine / machine shop: $75 Damn...seems expensive. If I had a LONG ream, I'd do it myself. I've se...

Re: what kingpin kit?

2500 # axle according to the tag. That makes it a Moog 8453 Kit. However, that Moog kit doesn't have the roller bearings.

Rock Auto has the AC Delco 45F0044 kit listed with metal bushes and roller bearings. so I guess I'll go in that direction.

what kingpin kit?

65 d100 slant 6 truck. 5 thin leafs up front, pretty tall arch by eyeballing it. Anyway: found some kingpin slop today, so that's the NEXT project. What kit should I get? There is only 1 listed with the ball bearing, and that says for 2500 and 2800 lb axle, I think I have a 2K axle (yes?) I also not...

Re: "green" bearings?

one type has a swaged on flange....thats the one he doesn't like. the other has the snap ring, and allows for some misalignment without premature bearing failure. Both are the same type of bearing - just a different retaining method......but I'm not sure of the load rating for a truck. Thats the que...

"green" bearings?

Anyone running the sealed "green" type bearings in a D100 (8.75) rear? Or keeping tapered rollers?

I know there are questions about sideloading them, in autoX applications and such. But I'm not doing that in a D100.
But Im not sure about overall loads.

Opinions?
