Re: individual leaf spring removal in truck?

I broke the folding tabs off on my clamps, too. What I did was use my exhaust cutoff wheel to cut back into the clamp a little further and made a new tab. Had to hammer the clamp flat, first. This not only gives you a new folding tab, but when you reinstall the clamp, you can visegrip it to the spri...

Re: u bolts

Hey Randal, I just had a set made for my 70 D100 rear, but didn't need them. They are about 6.5" long, 3.25" across, and 9/16" thick. I'd take $35 plus actual shipping if you're interested. They came with nuts and washers. I can send pics if you want with exact measurements.

Re: individual leaf spring removal in truck?

Yes, that bolt goes all the way through the springs. There's a nut on top to take off, then after the end clamps are removed the pack will fall apart. I just did this to my 70...pulled the 2nd and 4th springs from the top and it dropped my truck about 4 inches. Mine had 6 springs on each side to sta...

Re: wandering truck

A year ago I picked up a set of polished Torquethrusts with 255/60's all around at a yardsale and tried them on my 64 Polara, which had 275/60's and 215/75's on it. Drove fine beforehand, but with the larger tires on the front end, every line, crack, or pothole in the road pulled the car all over th...

Rear axle lowering

Have any of you guys ever moved the spring perches up on the frame to lower the rear axle instead of removing springs? It looks to me like the rear perch could be moved up 2 inches and the front perch maybe 1 1/4 inches. I don't know how that would compare with removing a spring.

Lowering revisited...again!

After reading how OKLAMOPAR lowered his truck, I did the front on my 70 D100 the same way...removed the 2nd and 4th springs, counted from the top. It SLAMMED the front of my truck! I feel like I'm looking straigt down. I DO have a short tire on the front, but I have some taller tires for it. I haven...

Re: 1970 W200 Wiper Pivot problems

Once I got mine loosened up in the vise I sprayed silicone lubricant down inside them and now they work fine. I have used the Liquid Wrench silicone spary on numerous things around the house... everything from the noisy garage door opener to the sticky seat belt latch in my wife's 300C and it works ...

Carpet install

Anybody have any good pics of how the carpet is finished at the outside edges? I'm installing a new black carpet in my 70 swb that I had left over from a 68 Fury restore. I know it's not going to fit perfect due to the differences in the shape of the trans tunnel between the 2 vehicles, but I'm goin...

Steering column removal

Hey guys, I'm pulling the 3-spd column out of my 70, linkage is already long gone. I'm trying to pull the plate that covers the hole in the floor. It has 3 big phillips-head screws and 1 bolt in it. I already pulled the bolt, but there is NO way a screwdriver is going to remove those rusted in screw...

I'm not using the 3-spd column, I'm using the 4-spd column you just sent me. Do you have a bushing for that one Bud?

Re: Steering column bearing?

I got this column from you this week Bud. I assumed they had something in there from the factory because mine was so sloppy. I guess I could have just used the column I had instead of buying another one, but hindsight is always 20/20, right? I guess I can take the column apart and fab something up m...

Steering column bearing?

Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be a bearing in the bottom end of the steering column in my 70 D100 3-spd? Mine just slops around, so I bought a used column, but it's just as sloppy as the one I have and has no bearing, either. What holds the shaft firmly in place at the bottom of the col...

Dash light problem

Ok, here's the issue... no dash lights when the switch is on, but dash lights work when the key is turned on. New one on me. I know it's a short somewhere, but where do I start looking? The truck is a swb 70 D100 2wd with a 318 3-speed.
Thanks guys.

Re: Plastic truck yuck

My wife had an 88 Trans Aire conversion Astro. The 4.3 died at 134k miles, so I dropped in a 5 liter. Bolted right up to the tranny and all I had to do was make motor mounts, swap exhaust manifolds, and pull the fuse on the in-tank fuel pump and it ran great for another 15k miles. No more fuel injec...

Re: Power to fuse box goes away.. No power in cab

I just had this issue last week with my 70 swb after installing a new steering box. Next day had no power. The fusible link wire had broken contact where it went into the fuse box. Unplugged the harness, pulled the fuse box, drilled a hole thru the box and under hood connector and ran a wire straigh...

Re: clutch disk direction?

I think you'll find the disc will only fit in 1 way. If you put it up against the flywheel backwards the pressure plate won't sit flat.

Re: New Engine vs Old School

You're right about being out-horsepowered by some new motors.... My wife's 300C with 5.7 Hemi will spank my 64 Polara with warmed up 426 wedge, but let's hook them back-to-back and we'll introduce them all to Mr Torque! I will hook a chain to my car and go tractor pull on ANY new import. Also, let's...

No title. He has some parts listed on Ebay, but the drivetrain, including the Dana, and the interior were already out of the truck. It was just a shell, and not even rolling with the missing rearend. I considered trying to buy the whole truck, but didn't know how I would get it home. I also don't th...

Another Dude bites the dust

There's a guy selling 70 Dude parts on Ebay right now. I talked to him yesterday, but a few hours too late. He sent his 70 Dude to the scrapper yesterday morning. I talked to them this morning about pulling some parts, but the guy said they don't sell parts, just crush vehicles, and the truck was on...
