Re: King Pin Replacement Process
Use a ball joint press to push the pins out.
Take the spindles to a shop that can hone connecting rods-they can line-hone the spindle bushings quickly and more accurately than even the correct reamers. I found this out when my machine shop guy laughed at me for doing it the hard way. :)

Re: passenger 4 speed
I'm installing an a833 in place of my NP435. This is not a very simple swap. I have a Lakewood bellhousing to use for the trans, which is steel and allows me to fabricate engine mount bosses to weld on. I'll have to fab/tap holes for the slave cylinder as well. I'll also have to fab something betwee...

Re: bypassing amp gauge
I haven't done anything yet with the pickup, but on my '68 Charger I just ran the bypass to the alternator. What that does is leave the alternator in place and functional but it doesn't carry the battery charging load. It reads all the loads inside the car, but nothing that powers from the start rel...

Re: gear oil question
I use Royal Purple in all my stuff, but it's overkill. Any name brand lube will work, just be sure you don't use a GL-5 rated lube in the transmission; if it gets over 300 degrees F, it will eat the synchros and in any case reduces the effectiveness of the synchros making shifts harder and slower.

Re: Double overloads maybe? Towing a trailer
Timbren rubber springs are relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and don't affect ride quality when running light.

Re: iginition
I think ign1 goes to the 'run' circuit, which passes through the ballast resistor and ign2 is the crank bypass circuit, to deliver higher non-resisted voltage during cranking.

Re: 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour
I'm definitely doing the whole tour, I live in FL and have family in Detroit. But, if the creek don't rise I'll be doing it in my '68 Charger R/T. If I can't get the car done to satisfaction by then, I'll take the pickup.
Thanks for reminding me I better get snapping on motel reservations.

Re: Looking for a King Pin bearing measurement....
Wally, I have a set of ball bearing kingpins half installed-I ran out of time to do the passenger side and haven't got back to it. I'll measure the bearing and photo it for you. Give me a day or so.

The cracked saddle as well as the rod bearing failure can also be a result of a long-term detonation problem.

Re: 61 lwb 24 mpg with a tailwind !
I've seen over 20mpg on mine, 318, 4speed and 3.55 gears. I converted to electronic ignition and set initial timing so I can force it to ping on 89 octane, then I run premium (or non-ethanol when I go by that station) IIRC my total timing is 34* + whatever the vacuum advance adds.

Re: Which is correct: dip stick or owner's manual?
Go with the quantity stated in the manual. It's very common for the stick to be off. Add the correct amount and re-mark the stick. As far as what's already there, I would remove some by removing the oil filter and *after disconnecting the coil wire* turn the engine over, pumping some out. If you lea...

The only difference is the clutch disc, wouldn't you put a new clutch in anyway?TruckStupe wrote:Sounds like more work than what I'm looking for, then. Thanks so much, John!

Re: where can i get transmission mounts?
I've taken some "heat" over my opinion on high prices but I will give it again. Prices for parts are directly proportionate to our need and availability. Someday I may have to retire my '67 but as long as I can get parts (at any price) it stays roadworthy (safe to operate). :clap It's Capitalism, m...

Re: wheel hop
To be clear, are you spinning the tires or is the truck just shaking real bad? If the latter, it's likely the clutch.
