I just checked mine, and it is on the same plane on each side. In other words, it is not bent in toward the truck.

All the photos in this thread are great. Here's my overloaded '65... 30x 80lb bags of concrete. It was the smoothest 5 miles I have ever driven in it. I just got finished rebuilding my manual column... serious pain in the butt. I don't have any experience with the auto. However, my only slop issues were with the rag joint (used a rebuild kit from Autozone) and two screws that hold the steering column section that holds the blinker switch in place ...

I figured it out. The column is bad. The shifting rod doesn't engage the shifting inner shaft to go in to reverse or first. Luckily, the parts truck has a good column.
