Thanks for response guys.i like idea of dot 5 fluid.not ready for that yet.pwrwgndrvr's response seems to make more sense to me as only time I seem to have this problem is when clutch is pushed in for more than a few minutes sitting in traffic.otherwise it shifts fine.i have actually shut truck off ...

Clutch issue.here's situation.if I sit in traffic awhile with clutch pushed in the truck will want to start moving and will be about impossible to pull out of gear like neutral to stop it.it only does this when I have clutch pushed in for awhile.other than that shifts fine.hydraulic leak? A-745 transmission
I want to change oil in my A-745 3 speed trans.what fluid would you guys recommend nowadays?I think it has gear oil in it.everything I've read says auto trans fluid.what type since type A is no longer available.thanks.

I knew it was gonna be a fair amount of work.shifting is fun as everything else I own is automatic.hip bothers me on occasion though.maybe I should find an automatic truck so when I get tired of shifting I can hop in the automatic truck.wonder if I can convince the wife?lol.

No I want to stay with the 318.big block would be cool but don't have the funds for that.360 would be only other option.already have headers and nice exhaust on truck,plus all the other big block associated things.

Ok the problem I'm having is choke related.i have to really step on throttle to release it off of high idle.if I don't it is a bear to push choke cable in.it opens and closes fine.am I missing something here.do I need to lube can we're throttle idle screw rides on cam.was just curious if anyone else...

Bad connection at points and ignition switch.wiggled lead at distributor that was problem.corroded right at eyelet.never seen that before.fixed that and switch was bad.no detent left in switch when turning from off to on.well at least I think it's good to go left it running in driveway for a while a...

I've thought about electronic ignition too.whole truck really needs rewired though.i think some Chevy guy was under the hood with side cuts ha,ha.fuse box is a corroded mess which is typical of these trucks.have had to clean up contacts a few times for lights to work.but will probably really conside...

Wonder if it has the 70 or 71 tank in it.the tank has some red paint spots on it and truck is blue.and I mean you couldn't get your hand in back cab corner to get anything if you wanted to.it fills the whole back area.thanks for the info.

Possibility,the fuel system is pretty much new .new carb,fuel pump.replaced all steel lines from tank to carb.i have been changing filter every couple of months because there was some rust in tank.fuel filter gas looks clear,clean.when it's running it runs good.no hesitations,stumbling.it just acts ...

Well haven't got it all ironed out.fuel tank itself is one problem after deciding to change a brand new looking fuel filter it was full of rust,so pulling tank is next on list.suspect carb is also leaking down.darn Holley's never was a fan 2 or 4 barrel temperamental.yes mine should have had a Strom...

After 3 years I'm finally back.I just got a 68 swepty,found it locally.it's a pretty solid truck.good in all the usual trouble areas,cowl,cab mounts,rockers.floor is pretty solid also.rear corners of bed have some rust out.truck came from the south.it's good to be back in a swepty.still have the 49 ...

I told my wife don't think that i gave up on the sweptlines. she said ya,ya i know. The 70-71's have always been my favorites so that's what im holding out for. i have had 2 61's so i might as well go for a 71. .
