Re: Transmission swap help!!!
I just prefer having control when the transmission shifts. I love it, gives me the feel of shifting while still being faster in the quarter. Putting a car in drive is boring for me, I do that daily with my diesel, so this makes my summer toy just that much more fun for me. I'm only 20 miles away fro...

Re: Transmission swap help!!!
I will give them a call tomorrow. In overdrive it will flash to 2500rpm, just not in first. I love the transmission, with my manual valve body I could never shift m. 4 speed that fast  and overdrive is the same as my 4 speed. Just need to get it to launch outta the hole like it should and it'll...

Re: Transmission swap help!!!
I can light em up in first if i get rolling and mash it. But its like the converter comes on at 1300rpm. I can barely keep it idling in gear, which i find to be a problem.

Re: Transmission swap help!!!
Well I got it all together. Had to take a flapper wheel on a die grinder to the crank, it had a slight edge. I'm guessing it wasn't machines perfectly from the factory. No, I have a non lock up, more converter choices that way since any tc for a 727 will fit. But I have a new dilemma. So this is beh...

Transmission swap help!!!
Hey guys, im in the process of swapping my a833 od for a a518. Just rebuilt the transmission, bolted on the flex plate, seated the tc and bolted it up but i cant spin the tc. I seated it, and with the tranny tight to the block theres a 1/4" for the tc to slide towards the flex plate but it wont budg...

The tranny debate
I don't know how many of you all saw my build thread a few years ago, but my trucks a 70 step side on a lowered 1985 d100 chassis, built small block, a833 od, and 8 3/4 with 3.91 sure grip. My future plans for this thing are to 4 link the rear, and a tranny/engine swap. Ideally I would like to build...

Re: confusing vibration
It's new as of a month ago. It started when I got a clutch that didn't slip and a good working lsd, I started breaking stuff. I broke the pinion in the 489 case, but it was also the original 40 year old pinion. I'm gonna double check all the engine and tranny mounts, but all that stuff was new per f...

Re: confusing vibration
The vibration is felt through the whole truck, steering wheel, seat, the whole truck shakes. It's nothing suspension wise, it's only über load between 1500-2200rpm, mostly in first gear, less in 2nd. Everything in this truck is new as of 10000 miles ago when I finished restoring it. I'll double chec...

Re: confusing vibration
Yes, typically between 1500-2200 rpm. There's no vibration at higher rpm, and I haven't changed anything on the engine except the clutch. Though that rpm in 3rd gear doesn't seem present, note in 4th, just a noticeable hum at higher speeds

confusing vibration
i havent been on here i a long time, but ive ran into an issue i cant figure out. i have a nasty vibration under 2000 rpm, mostly in first gear, a little in 2nd, and in 4th gear at 70 theres a humming sound. i have the a833 od transmission, rebuilt under 1000 miles ago, and ive put in a centerforce ...

Re: suggestions better mpg and performance?
my 318, though not stock, with 3.91's and an od tranny just pulled 12.2mpg, and thats with a lot of hills and city running. my mpg sucks because of my carb, its a demon 650 mechanical secondaries double pumper, if it didnt run so well i'd probably bolt on an afb and get closer to 14-15

Re: a833od vs nv3500
i do have a clutch pack for it and the bigger 11" flywheel layin around somewere. i do think 1st will be very low, but should give a good quick launch and tear the hell out of second, and atleast bark 3rd. the short throw is a lot shorter than the stock shifter tower, and i have researched it a bunc...

a833od vs nv3500

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 question
you might have to change the spindles, the bearings are probably bigger. i would find a 1/2 ton and take all the suspension from it, plus the van lower control arms and go from there

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 question
unless the control arms are different, you should be able to buy 1/2 ton springs and 5 lug rotors. And if you want it lowerd, get van lower control arms. you have to enarge the hole where they bolt to the frame.

if your super worried you could get some lock nuts. the end is kind of ovaled, or nylocks would work. Lock washers too
