65 slat six dodge idles very ruff every morning,it does not matter if the weather is hot or cold,the whole truck shakes when cold but 10 minutes later warms up and runs smooth .What can I do?

I have three sets of lights in the back of my truck.One set are regular tail lights,another brake lights and some small ones are brake lights.

Cheapest and least headache route would be to keep the slant six and beef it up for more power.Two barrel or dual one barrel carburators etc.

easier to drop another slant six in or have that one rebuilt.

saw that the points were gapped a little too wide so I closed the gap and now it idles well with out having to reve it up for fear of it stalling.Still cold ,but I can live with that as before I guess.Just let it warm up for ten minutes or so and it's good.Thanks

it has always been cold ,but I could get it to idle until it warmed up before then drive it.I had the carburator rebuilt a month ago and now it wont idle when cold.Have to rev it up some.It runs fine once it is warmed up.If the water temperature on the water temperature gauge does not read 180 degre...

It wont stay idleing have to reve it up or it will stall.I have to let it reach 180 f.or it will stall at the first intersection.What can I do? Frustrating cold blooded truck-slant six w/ automatic trans.

What is the other motor? Looks like an old chrysler flathead six kind of.

I put a bed from a 1960 ford pick up I found in the junkyard on my 1964 dodge for $100 .Very solid-Looks like it belongs.Was a stepside until a drunk ran into it,

I use to pull the choke,turn the switch and boom,it would start right up.Now I pull the switch and sit there and crank and crank.I dont know what happened????

Leave the slant six.Dependable,good on gasoline,long lasting.You really need to drain the gas tank first before you think of bigger and better things.Save yourself a lot of headaches,Why re-invent the wheel.leave the truck as is.Easier for your wife to learn to drive stick

Getting a newre cab would also be labor intensive,but besides the larger back window,you would also get the later model outer door handles also instead of the old refrigerator type ones .

How about the G.M. high out-put (one wire) alternator? That would work,wouldn't it? I put one in my 1947 dodge 1.5 ton truck to replace the cheesy old generator.It works fine!
