Re: "U" shaped hole-of-black-despair

That's the crossover port that routes hot exhaust thru the bottom of the intake manifold to warm it up when the engine is cold. The butterfly valve at the base of the exhaust manifold on one side is controlled by a bi-metal spring that closes the valve when the engine is cold. When the engine is sta...

Nope, I had to put the project on hold due to funds. I just sold my Hemi Dart project so now I can concentrate on my truck.

Re: Hummingbird Swarm o/t

I love them little boogers. I went camping west of Ft Collins and had on a pair of bright flowered bathing trunks and as soon as I walked out of the camper they came and started buzzing me. I had to change. These guys would fly about 50MPH straight at my crotch and stop about 6" away. I kept doublin...

Re: Rear axle lowering

I was looking at mine and it seem to me you could get a rear mount, invert it mounting it at the front, eliminate the shackles on it and bolt the front of the spring directly to it and be able to lower the truck 3".

Steering column interchange question

I'm looking to change out the steering column in my 67 D-100. I don't really care about the electrical conversions necessary as I'm doing a ground up re-wire and can accommodate any changes that become necessary. I just need to know what will physically fit as a bolt-in.

Thanks, Jim

Rim size with Scarebird brakes

Question on my 67 D-100 with Scarebird front disc. Can I use 15" x 7" wide with 3-1/2" backset without having any clearance problems?

Thanks, Jim

Re: Machine Work

Hey Robin, I had to have some machining done on my 67 SB and Jasper Racing Engines were backed up so they recommended Ridge Reamers off Sheridan N of 76. They did an excellent job and it was reasonable. Check them out.

Rim fit on Scarebird brake conversion

I scored a great set of Cragers today. I know the backs fit fine (15x10 wide x 4-1/2" BS). I did a scarebird conversion on the front and was wondering if the front rims will have any clearance problems. They are 15x8 wide x 3-1/4" BS. Does anyone know anything about these rims? The centers are bolte...

Re: stupid questions from a young man learning

The last 3 digits tell you that you have a 8-3/4" rearend with a "741" case. On my 1967 door post is the vin plate and on that is listed the rear end ratio. Here's where you can read up on it.

Sorry, For once it's beautiful here in Co and cold there. OK we're sending it your way. You guys need one of these. Of course a Mopar is preferred but we'll let the GM do the dirty work.

Front shackle question

I've re-arched the springs and installed ball-bearing kingpins and now am ready to install the front end. The main reason I re-arched the springs is the front shackles were slanting at a 45 degree angle forward. They wiggle a little but I'm wondering how to bring them back. A little deep creep or wh...

Re: The kingpins are finally in!

The "blue tool" didn't work so I yanked the axle and Monday it will be at Denver Drivetrain to get the springs re-arched and the kingpins replaced. In the mean time I'll be going to Performance Tires to get 12" wide x 17" rims and some 14" meat for the rears.

Re: The kingpins are finally in!

Just doing mine now. On order is NAPA's ball bearing set. Mine's a 2500# axle, I have the backer plates off and have removed the bolt on the front of the axle that holds the kingpin. Now what? Do I just beat the hell out of it with a brass punch? Does it matter which way it is removed, top or botto...

Re: Thank you Scarebird

Hi Guys, I ran into a whole new set of problems. The instructions say that if you have A-100 hubs the hubs do not need to be turned down as they will fit into the rotors. The problem is that there is no way to center the rotors on the hubs as the lug bolt holes are .010 smaller then 5/8" and the lug...

Re: steering colum floor plate leaking

I've been making my own using 1" x 1/8" black foam weatherstrip from NAPA. Home depot also sells it. It's a roll that has a peel off white paper strip and is sticky on one side. I also used it to make a seal for the floor board to tranny cover. Worked great for me.
