My imagination needs help

Can anyone show me a pic of the following things: The area under the headlight trim. Mine are held on by one screw on each side and I have no idea what the other two screws went to as the area has hidden rust that destroyed it. The way the mud flaps attach to a stake body. I asume they had flaps. Th...

Re: Seats

It is very doable. I would just run a piece of metal across the front and back of the bench seat frame and rig the seats and/or console to it. It would all move at once for adjusting, but it isn't like the passenger needs to reach the pedals. Just curious, but how tall are you??? I'm 6' 3" and I don...

Re: EFI?

I'm sure it is doable, but to give any advice more information on the EFI system is needed. Most systems run one or two electric pumps at a constant rate and have a relief valve that releases excess fuel back to the tank. You may be able to route this to an existing vent line and use a vented cap to...

Re: Lets talk engine swaps for a moment

You originally mentioned building this as a dialy driver. In this depressed market, an engine worth $4k is probably not a daily driver. In my area, the higher dollar parts are getting less than half of what they were a year ago on E-bay & CL. For a daily driver, you need low end torque and an OD tra...

Re: Kingpins, nylon bushings

Go with the metal. This is also a job you may want to farm out to a TRUCK service station. Car places usually have no idea about these things and the way a few mechanics described how they would install them scares me. The bushings are normally pressed fit. Most people pound them in and out and the ...

Re: slant six carb alternatives

The 240 & 300 Ford sixes had good carbs that should fit. My 70 F-250 has a Carter 1bbl that hasn't given me any trouble. I like the electric choke set up better on the Fords than the divorced chokes I see on most Swepties. All the choke needs is a key on only hot wire from the ignition or alternator...

Re: Are All Slants the Same?

Thanks for the answers. Seems like a V8 is a simpler swap than a newer slant 6. There was a cheap 440 with tranny on CL. :thinking I'm still baffled about the smoking in the 61 motor. It is low miles, but sat way too long. I should be able to get the rings to seat. I tried Seafoam, but no luck. I mi...

Re: Lowered floor?

NICE!!!!! Not sure if it is $69,000.00 nice, but NICE. I think the floor is an optical illusion. If you look at the passenger door, you can not see the point where it starts to curve at the bottom. I'm trying to visualize what you are proposing, but I think the frame is in the way unless you have a ...

Re: The good, the bad and the ugly

Someone did some bad bodywork on mine too and cut out all of the rust spots with a grinder (don't think he used a cutting wheel on the grinder either). Everyone who fixes up old vehicles finds some "creative" past repairs. But hey, it's nothing money can't fix. I wish my money did bodywork. Mine jus...

Re: Slant six turbo

Weight, aerodynamics, gear ratio, driving technique, and many other things affect milage. Can a turbo six get good milage??? Of course, but the turbo itself being responsible for the increase does not make sense. There are many mods that would increase the milage and the performance of an engine. Pe...

Re: D300 Disk Brake Conversion: Worth It?

What are your expectations??? Disc brakes started going on cars in the sixties as an option and by the seventies was standard on the front end of most vehicles. As time went on, more and more vehicles got discs in the rear too. Most braking power is in the front, so front discs are a bigger deal tha...

Re: What does your NP205 sound like???

You sound pretty sure of the T-case and universals. I'd check the drive shafts for balance and bends. Also check all of the internal & external splines on the slip areas of the shafts.

Never had one in a Dodge, but they aren't that noisy in a Ford and the noise you describe doesn't sound right for any T-case.

Re: What does your NP205 sound like???

I'm not there to hear it, but your discription does not sound normal. How well was the case cleaned when the bearings were replaced??? Did you look at the teeth at all while it was apart? Did you check the case for damage/defects where the bearings fit??? Grinding, crunching, and vibration don't sou...

Re: Old body new bones?

Once you go beyond "bolt on" the sky is the limit. I have seen a 59 Ford on a Ramcharger platform (wasn't a good fit the wheel base was off a little). If you do not mind modifying the frame, you can even mix & match to get desired features. Just make sure you are square and that you have the right w...
