How to transport a Utiline bed?

Hey All, Scored me a Utiline short bed. Just the bed as I love step sides. After some repairs and a paint job I'll swap out the Sweptline bed on my 68' D100. It looks like setting it down on the fender bottoms will bend them up. Or is it correct to flip it over onto the bed rails for transport? Foun...

Yes, at it again with the planting. Missed a few years posting. Rest assured we did plant around the yard, things just die every year.

Re: Where did you mount your tach?

My fuel gauge is in there since I hate add on gauges under the dash. I pulled the old broke tach out and swapped in a working fuel gauge. I plan on getting all new gauges then putting in a vacuum gauge into the tach pod. I can see just fine over the gauge also.

Re: 235/75R15 Tire Pics Request

Try this site. It allows you to see two tires on rims side by side. Put in your known size and try many alternates. I was able to find a fit for the rear of my 68' that was wider (265/70-15) but same height so the speedometer is still correct. Good luck

46RH Shift Points?

Hello All, I am in the process of rebuilding a 95' A518, 46RH transmission with Lock-up converter. All is going very well following the instructions of the Transmission Bench videos. Very detailed. My fears have turned into pleasure as it goes together one piece at a time. Check him out on You-Tube....

Riddle me this?

I am doing the 727 to 46RH swap and all the info I find says to upgrade to 3/8" line. Well when I removed the trans from the donor truck it had 3/8" line but only 1/4"NPT fittings to the trans. And if you put a drill bit into the trans holes for the tubes they are only 9/32" (.281"). And 5/16" (.312...

Re: Stock height

Hi 68swep,
Can we get a picture of where you are measuring at? I have a 68 D100 I believe is stock height. I could take pics of what I have and maybe that will help.
235/75R15 Front, 265/70R15 Rear and the speedometer is spot on right.

Re: Headliner Installed

Hey Sledgehammer sorry for the slow response. I used a sheet of 1/4" plywood and stripes of thin metal for the over lap along the edge. Glued and screwed the metal so I had a 1/2" of metal hanging out past the wood. So the wood fit into the opening and the metal kept it flush. Then some thin foam an...

Headliner Installed

Hey All, Just wanted to say Happy 4th and show that I finally installed my headliner. My cab has damage from the first owner and I think if I strip the paint I will find Bondo. The inside lip for the headliner foam and fabric to tuck under is all different sizes. So I had to put wood blocks in for s...

D100 Towing Options?

Hello All, I have a 68' D100, 318/auto Sweptline shortbed. My folks may be getting a trailer soon, to live in short term, that I will purchase from them when they buy a home. Question is what should I do to my truck to make it safe to pull with and a reasonable limit for weight? Just to make things ...

Re: Stand alone motor and drivetrain.

218 and I found a company in Oregon who have an adapter to fit it onto an A518 trans. I also want to fit an A518 onto the 318 in my 68' D100. It would be nice to have matching trans for parts and learning about them.

thumbnail_20211020_165651.jpg Hello All, You may remember this truck from a few months ago. Has been mine for nearly 30 years. Time to get it up and running! I am working on the flathead 6 right now in the garage and will add a 46RH overdrive trans to it. But the question? Would I be better off wit...

Old Compressor Rebuild

Finally finished my compressor project. It's quiet but very slow. Looks awesome!! The volume is big enough to handle my air tools. Date stamp on the tank is 1956. The picture of the little girl is my daughter when the compressor was in the old 47' Dodge truck protected in my late Uncle Charles's gar...

Check out the videos on youtube of the QA1 build, "Project Corkscrew", from there you can find the install video. It looks clean and easy for a home mechanic to do. If I go IFS this will be my choice. Good luck.

Update:
Got a video yesterday. HE MOVED HIS FEET!!! Just out and back but enough to push the therapist away. When my sister asked, "what are you doing?" the sound of his voice said it all, "I am pushing her" was his reply. The man is a lion. Always was, always will be.

1947 Dodge my new project.

Hey All, Well after 20 years apart the 47' is finally home. In 01' the Army sent me overseas and it went into storage with family. Well 2400 miles and 2 very long days of driving and it is back in my procession. My 68' D100 will help haul parts to rebuild it. Wish me luck, Jimharold 1947 reduced.jpg

Re: Disaster avoided today

I always pat the hood of the vehicle if it breaks in the driveway and not on the highway. And tell it "Good Boy". Like finding a flat tire before a drive. My floor jack is 10 feet away, easy fix. So give the old truck a smile and pat next time you go by it.

Got It. Belt stretch over time. All nice and quiet now. Thanks for the hints they help folks remember some of the basics of owning older vehicles.
