Re: 1968 W100/D100 Sweptline

I know it is an older post, but... IF you purchased it... lose the 67-72 F series bed. That truck “needs” a flatbed. That grill alone is worth more than the rest of the truck. IF it has good doors and a sound chassis, repair/replace the floor pans and seat, call it good. Do not swap the factiry engi...

Re: Getting back on it...

Will stay 2wd with a modern brake upgrade until I find a 72-92 W series running gear donor. Want at least a 400 when the 69 gets converted... Tired of rear mount distributors...

Getting back on it...

Lots of changes since I was a regular poster. We now have a 16yo foster daughter we are likely to adopt. She is becoming an actual member of the kustonizing scene, as she has a 50s Schwinn, a customized motorcycle I retired years ago, AND my old daily driver 94 Danger Ranger in her project line up. ...

Motorhome/bus windshield?

Does anybody know a source? Our oddball M400 based RV takes a 2 piece curved bus windshield. The last units rolled off the production line in the early 1970s. The builder, Ungers Coach, still sells spare parts but has no more windshields. Trying to get the rig back in service. 413/727, base Sweptlin...

Re: Wheel Bolts vs. Lug Nuts

My 49 uses wheel bolts. Same drum used until at least 1957. According to parts searches, 58-71 are the same front drums. Tapered/keyed rear axle and drums through 1964. 65-68 and then 69 through end of 8.75” axle production on the rear. Are the search results right? Nope, our 1960 D100 used wheel bo...

Re: A100 trailer hitch.....

I’ve had the same hitch on a 94 Ranger, an 85 C10 and my 49 Dodge truck. Reese Class 3 in a box adjustable. Bolt it to the frame, center it up. If needed, use a 1/2” bit to drill through the back. Stainless bolts, washers and lock nuts. I use 4, looks factory. The receiver on my 69 D100 was custom b...

Re: ProCar bucket seats

Unbolt the upper seat. Gut the seat base. 1/4” flat steel stock, a handful of stainless fasteners, 8 heavy duty L brackets from the farm co-op. Lockable heavy duty Rubbermade tote.

So far so good. It’s coming together, slowly. My geriatric Beagle likes it... good enough

I’m modifying my bench frame to sink a set of touring buckets in it. With a center storage bin.

Traded a $38 brand new tire for the $800 seats...

Re: Moving Along, And New Stuff,....

Same gas cap 1948-1971 There are caps that fit at Tractor Supply, Fleet and Farm, Co-op, Grange stores... You can also use certain Harley, old Indian and old English bike gas caps. I got my last 2 at Autozone. First one got stolen at a Mopar show in WA. Second one is still in place 12 years later. M...

Re: Moving right along on it

Well, the west coast jr mirrors are in the scrap pile. So are 2 brand new towing mirrors. No way to make them sit level. Picked up a 3rd Drifter motorcycle last week. Making a run to NE GA Thursday for another one. Looking into possibly buying an old resort/campground in the Smokies. We went from 95...

Re: Brighter headlights?

Not that aren’t very expensive, or Chinese garbage. Can’t find a decent middle ground. Even the direct fit, same plug in, same retainer 7” motorcycle headlight inserts are junk. Or ugly. Bad enough I’m using led units at all on a vintage truck.

Re: Decent single stage acrylic enamel?

All compatible. Simplified the 69 to black up high over yellow. Yellow hides funky, black emphasizes it. And my truck has been through a lot. Ridge runner, Scout troop and Venture Crew, parts hauler, storage shed... Pretty beat up. Getting ready to pull the cattle racks off. Too heavy. They might ha...

Brighter headlights?

Marker lights were easy, big rig led swap. Yes, I know 69 had reflectors, not marker lights. Taillights are easy, add sockets with led bulbs. Or convert to pure led units with built in back up lights. Headlights though... LMC harness with relays? LED big rig sealed beam conversion that look stock? G...

Re: Old six lug pattern 20 inch

You can get that same tire from 14-20”... look at older Class A motor coaches. Big 6 lug 19.5” was dirt common. At least with Spicer 70 rear axles. I have 7 of those wheels, at least.

Check the brass gas/air fittings at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Same threads and seats as automotive fuel and brake line adapters. Been using them on tractors for years w/o leaks, fuel, oil and hydraulic lines.

ProCar bucket seats

I scored a set of old touring buckets. Plan is to delete the headrests, change the seat covers a bit, and install. On the bench seat frame, separated by a custom console. Any drawbacks to this kind of install? The bench base is straight up junk, couch cushions and canvas over a good frame. It works,...

is methanol rubbing alcohol you get at the drug store?
That’s isopropyl alcohol. You can get methanol at any hardware store. Handle carefully, not only poisonous, highly flammable.

Re: East Tennessee members?

I know the west TN scene really well. Other than cruise nights, there isn’t one. We’re looking in Morristown, Rogersville, Bulls Gap and Dandridge areas. Have to be close enough to a decent reservoir for her to justify keeping our sailboat. She likes it, I want to make a reef out of it. Looking at a...

East Tennessee members?

Tipton and/or Shelby county plates still a guaranteed traffic stop? Decent older vehicle mechanics? Any good salvage yards lef...
