Been a while since I was on here, thought you folks would get a kick out of the latest rig.
D300 with a 4-53 Detroit, NP 540 conversion. Previous owner kept it in pretty good shape, was able to do a 4000 mile road trip with just basic maintenance. Yes, earplugs the whole trip.

Re: My tiny house build
My 22x26 cabin is real comfortable, cheap to heat and maintain. Even built a couple of small boats in the living room. Works even better now that the shop is built, and the tools are out there. Smaller works if you have the discipline to keep from gathering gadgets. Sounds like fun anyway.

'68 D200, 440, 727, 4.10 rear. 13mpg all highway, 9 or 10 towing moderate. Might get better if my extra Cummins crawls under the hood.

Re: Road Trip in the McMobile
I have the same issue in an automatic 1st gen. In my case the mechanical temp gauge is installed by the thermostat housing, which is just downstream of the tranny cooler. Don't know if you are running the stock type trans cooler, but transmission heat could be the culprit. That's an awesome truck yo...

My daily drivers are a 1990 W250 Cummins, 155k miles, just getting broke in. And a 1993 W350 Cummins with 230k, we're hitting the Alcan with it this week for a round trip to the Northwest.

Depending on what swepty stuff you're after, might be able to help you out a little closer to home. PM me sometime if you're interested, or watch for the "Power Wagon" bayweld.

Re: Thought You Guys Might Like To See My D/W300 Conversion
Looks awesome! Kind of partial to the 300s myself. When I stopped to say hello to Kaegi a few years ago, he gave me the mirrors that were on that truck when he got it. Free to the truck they came from. We'll figure out a way to get them south.

Re: Camper crazy
Now that looks like an Alaska camper. When you're done with it, I might have to come visit. Is there a Perkins sitting in the shop waiting for it? Looks more comfortable to sleep in than the crew.
Take care,

Re: What synthetic oil brand is best?
Synthetic is at it's best on a cold winter morning, moves alot better and parts get lubricated sooner. Most of my rigs get synthetic in the gearboxes and engine. Probably wouldn't worry about it in a warmer climate or summer rig though. Oh yeah, doesnt stay in the knuckles on the old trucks, comes r...

Yep, yeah, oh yeah. Drove a W300 home to Alaska from Texas, someone at every stop had a story about Dad, Uncle or Grandpa who had a truck like that. It was a blast!

Look closely at your new points, recently bought a set that the insulator wasn't on right. Took a while to figure out why it wouln't run after a tune up .
