Re: D100 vs D200 weight question

- heavier springs front and back, mounts and hardware
- Dana (posi) or spicer (open) heavier than 8 3/4
- 2 piece wheels, tires, front spindles, rear axles
- heavier, 12" brakes all around

all adds up . .

Re: 2 Arm Steering?

Tire pressure – My 71 was getting to be a bear to turn, even when moving. It was time for a tire rotation and realized I had not checked the tire pressure since putting on the new treads. Tires were down to 25 psi even though they sat fine. Back up to 45psi, steering was back to normal and I picked-...

Re: Spark Plugs for 383 and Head Compatibility

I have two different ‘452 head castings ‘452 from a car which uses the typical JY plug ‘452-3 from an RV which uses the tapered, “peanut” style GM plugs The ‘452-3s have additional water cooling passages around the spark plug which keeps a cooler running engine if they are installed on a matching -3...

Signals not working but 4 ways works, brake lights work

I’ve checked
- fuses good
- flashers good
- 12v going into the switch
- continuity on the switch between red (power) and (yellow, yellow) and (green, green)

What else can I check ?

Re: caster alignment setting?

When you installed a manual steering pitman arm and drag link, did you also remove the shims from the axle? John ___________________ there were none on either side I think the bad behavior is the result of the bad bushings. If these are engineered to assist in steering when in good condition, then w...

Re: caster alignment setting?

I just removed the factory PS on ’70 D200. The rear section stud was completely worn out. It was steering straight but had lost all road feel. I put on a manual pitman arm and draglink. It’s now the scariest ride I’ve ever experienced. I took it in for an alignment and there was a marginal improveme...

Re: Exhaust

On my ’71 383 D100 I went with a similar set-up to JPAdventurer’s. Not the short headers, but C bodied exhaust manifolds with 2.5”s into a single 3” and the big 3” truck muffler. I did it myself with mandrel sections from Summit including a 2.5” duel into single 3” collector. Its quiet when cruising...

Re: Forgive me, Electric ignition conversion

On my ’78 lean burn, the distributor had no vacuum advance if that helps – it was controlled by the computer on the air cleaner

This is the distributor you want if you convert to crank/computer controlled system

Re: Exhaust

My ’71 W100 318 4x4 4 speed has this front routed pipe and I think it’s because of the PTO.

Steering box rebuild for ’70 and ‘71

I have a ’70 D200 with power steering and a ‘71 D100 with manual steering. Both need the steering boxes rebuild. I believe both are stock Ross 24J equipment and I have a ’70 TRW casting spare. Are there kits for these ? For the ’70 I have a NOS drag link, NOS controls valve and NOS hoses. I’ll need ...

Re: Seized 383

My experience over 30 years has been to replace the 383 with a 440. But today I currently have several in the stable and would have to say I’m happy both and appreciate the differences. - ’70 D200, 440 auto headers, 3.54s and lots of miles, was and original 383 - ’71 D100, 383 auto C bodied manifold...

Re: 383 Help

I have a 71 CA truck with these same items. There is a supplemental manual for 71 and section 9A has what you need. The solenoid on the back of the engine looks like part of the NOx system. The breather is part of the ’71 clean air evap system. Make sure they are hooked up or switch to a single. 1) ...

Late Model Wheels, Anyone try these ?

I recently saw a ‘70 truck on ebay with these newer style wheels, 5 on 17. Anyone try these ? My information is the 5 on 17 are a 5in bolt circle. I don’t know what the 8 on 17s are.

saved one from the crusher

’71 D100, 383 auto Had no motor / tranny and completely disassembled. Put the puzzle back together with the drive line out of my ’69 D200, did my own exhaust with mandrel bends from Summit, C body manifolds into 2 ½ and then into 3in single – think it works just as good as the headers / duels on my’...
