Re: Customized D100

Wish I could get the build photos and details from that chop! I like how the hood's been smoothed out as well. Sweet.

Re: New Lifters on an Old Cam

Because camshafts and lifters are case hardened, meaning only a shallow portion of the metal is hard, you are supposed to replace both lifters and cam at the same time because the new parts will quickly wear out the old parts. I'd take it apart and clean it first. Make sure the lifter goes back into...

Re: Naval testing

So, how do you feel about it?

Hopefully, you feel like a total utter failure. That's what I felt like every time, and I made it every time! You know it's time to worry if you feel like you aced it!

Either way, I hope you make it brother!

Choke problems on Carter BBD

On my 70 318, someone had totally removed the choke linkage and had it set up like a lawnmower choke, open or shut. I grabbed the fast idle link and the vacuum pull-off at the pick n pull, and got that installed. I also got a choke heater (which won't fit in my intake) My question is, what is suppos...

Re: Sales Tax on Internet Purchases

I'm certain that most states which have a sales tax require internet purchases to be reported and sales tax paid with your income tax return. Do you report it? No, of course not. Also, how would it be possible to tax these internet purchases if they were intrastate transactions? Who gets to levy the...

Re: How do you soften up a washer bag?

nfury8:
I bought a wiper switch out of a '78 era dodge truck. It pushes in to wash, and has a two or three speeds. I had to file down the spindle to fit the original '70 wiper knob, but other than that works perfectly, and wire plug is the same (except had to add a wire for wash motor.)

Re: Too Noisy

If you know any roofers, look for this stuff. It's nearly identical to the lower-buck version of dynomat but scraps could probably be had for free. Sticky as hell, and waterproof (duh) Would be great for adding some mass to door panels, floors, firewalls, etc. http://www.graceathome.com/images/ice_a...

Re: Watch out what you Google for

So I'll throw my .02 in: Firefox is probably the most secure browser out there, and IE is at the other end of the spectrum. I like Opera browser for surfing, it has a lot of great features and I haven't had any security problems with it. If you catch something, a program called "Hijack This!" is exc...

Buck,
I think that RHD steering arm is just the ticket for eliminating the bumpsteer from a LHD truck that's been lowered in the front. Do you have a LHD arm?

Re: Temp Sending Unit.

First thing to do would definitely be to check the resistance between the guage itself and the terminal that connects to the sender. This will tell you if the wire is broken or a connection is corroded and causing too much resistance for the guage to read.

Re: How to connect connectors

Available from grainger and the like.

I usually just take the regular ones with the hard insulation and push them out with a nail or punch and throw the vinyl tube away.

Re: How to connect connectors

Surely the most permenant and longlasting way is this: Slide adhesive lined heat shrink over one of the wires and out of the way. Crimp un-insulated butt splice, then solder. After it cools, slide the tube over the joint and shrink. Using only crimp splices leaves the door open to corrosion, and the...

Sweptline featured in new movie!

Saw the preview for this movie on TV tonight. It's called "bottle shock" about california wine vs. french wine in 1976. Anyway, here are a couple stills from the trailer at IMDB:

Actually, I was cool about it. I just tried to stay calm and check things out. I had my tools with me, and there isn't much you can't fix on these old trucks with basic hand tools. Knock on wood, I have to drive her to Chicago later in August!

Small investigation and away we go, me feeling silly and the truck laughing insid...

Re: cross-app advice needed

Rodger, do you have a recommendation on muffler? Also, do you know off hand what size the inlet and outlet piping should be?

Shame, I just pitched a set of SB long tubes (no name). I couldn't give em' away. Nobody wanted them!
