Those 37s probably run an inch undersize and the swampers will be true to size or bigger. They'll rub turning/offroad.

Nice truck!
38" swampers are going to be considerably bigger and harder to fit than 37s.

Or scrounge up an old motorhome 440 draw through turbo setup. A small turbo will increase efficiency and boost power a bit.

Re: to 440 or not to 440
A good driveshaft shop can get you a ujoint flange to put on the MH tail flange and put a slipyoke and stubshaft in your driveshaft. Better, stronger setup. I have the flange for when I get around to it. If you see my FABO link above, higher RPM power can be made with a low comp engine with carb, in...

I'll bet a 6BT puts a D100 front axle over it's weight rating.

Re: '68 318 runs rough after revving.
Runs good off idle to 4500 RPM, then valve float...he said they shouldn't float 'til 5000, so the springs are probably weak.

Re: '68 318 runs rough after revving.
BBD, freshly rebuilt by a guy that's been doing carbs since the 60's. I've seen everything from top fuel to old British sports car to trophy truck carbs in his shop. He says it's likely timing chain and valve springs/lifters.

I think that's correct, but there's still a lot of his good tech posts out there.RussRoth wrote:I thought Demonsizzler was not doing this anymore? Thought I saw a post about this several months back.

'68 318 runs rough after revving.
I know my timing chain is pretty slack per this test. http://www.misterfixit.com/chanslop.htm Carb is good (or maybe needs a dashpot?), GM HEI ingnition, runs decent except if I rev it and drop the throttle shut, it burbles pretty bad, bogs down, and the vacuum gauge flicks all over a few inches for...

A guy named demonsizzler on the internets is a guru on them, and I know another old guru that built one for me in San Diego that ran awesome, as well as some others he's done for me.

Re: 4x4 question. (not sure where to put it)
Skip, I think the only downside would be fuel mileage, and I think those trucks didn't get very good mileage anyways. Wink. I know the older trucks didn't have locking hubs as you had said and all the newer trucks and jeeps don't have hubs, nor do they have axle disconnects. The only disconnect is d...
