It may just be the shifter ball slots are warn out. Yes, as long as the lengths of the internal portion are the same, you would be able to swap. Do you know if they rebuilt any of the shift tower/cover? or if they definitely put the nylon spacers back on the shift forks? Otherwise, I wonder if they have the gear spacing messed up on the main shaft? I feel for you. I yanked my NP435 approximately 8-10 times over the last 2 years before giving...

Not sure actually, it is the same as the ones on the 71 and up Muscle cars. I have a couple original ones if you don't find it. Original is the metal style.
