Re: It's in and runs, finally! -with sound clip!

I know this is a way old post, but here is a sound clip of the engine running. Sorry for the poor quality; I took it with my phone just about an hour ago (hence the dark)

New car! 1960 Plymouth Valiant

Howdy, all! I had to tell someone about my new fifty-one year old car! It's a 1960 Plymouth Valiant with a 904 push button auto and a 170 slant six. Been sitting since 1975. The floors are shot since it had floor mats in it. The trunk is perfect and it had no floor mat. I wish I could travel back in...

Vintage Power Wagon door strikers

Has anyone here had any experience with the Vintage Power Wagon rebuilt door strikers and hinge pins? My driver side is worn out and I need to replace it. Are there any other venues for replacement? What quality work/parts does VPW offer?

Re: /6 with OD

http://slantsix.org/articles/4-speeds/ODA833fourspeed1.htm Check that out. Several people here on the forum have put an A 833 OD behind the slant six with good results. You'll prob have to switch to using a mechanical clutch with the "Z" bar setup. Talk to "cowboy" on the forum. He has given me a go...

Re: Back for good!

Ha, that is a good question. While the slant six is running well and has good power (for a /6,) the numbers are quite low compared to what a turbo 440 should produce. I want my truck to be fast (!), but I still want a quick slant six vehicle, so I figured I should put a big, ultra-power motor in the...

Back for good!

Hello all! Just wanted to drop in and say hello and that I'm back on the forum for good! I graduated from college in May of 2010 and moved to south Mississippi in June. I'm a mechanical engineer for a company that manufactures large parts for CAT. I drove the '64 D100 all loaded down with all my stu...

Re: How to remove rear drums '64 D100?

I used a very similar puller to the one on the picture, mine just doesn't have the hammer attachment. It looks like that hammer attachment comes off in the one pictured above, then it would be identical to mine. I got a socket that fit the hex end on the puller and attached it to a 1/2" drive breake...

I found this article: http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/steering_box_adjust.htm It pertains to Ch#%ys but I imagine it's a similar process.

Re: Pulling axle shafts '64 D100 8-3/4: need help!

Ahhhh! Seems like everytime I post something on here, not but 10 minutes later I get it figured out. Makes me look like a dufus! :banghead Weird stuff, when I finally got the right side drum off, I didn't realize it at the time but it popped both sides off simultaniously. I thought that was pretty h...

Pulling axle shafts '64 D100 8-3/4: need help!

Got the drum off on the right side and now need to pull the axle shaft out. I don't have the tool they use in the FSM; what else should I use? It's like I need a "reverse puller" that bolts to the lugs on the axle housing that hold the brake backing plate on and pulls on the threaded end of the axle...

Re: How to remove rear drums '64 D100?

Thanks Mike, I got one off and am not too worried about the other now. I heated it up and ended up using a 4 foot cheater bar and it finally popped off.

Re: Sloppy steering-how to fix?

demulsion, Thanks, I was hoping someone was going to say something about the steering box. I think there is a quite a bit of slop there. With the truck stopped, I can turn the wheel back and forth and see in the input (steering column) to the steering box move, but not the output. I'll check all of ...

How to remove rear drums '64 D100?

I've never taken the rear drums off before and am having trouble. I tried using a standard drum puller but just mashed up the threads. I need to get the drums off to pull the axles to switch the pumpkin. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,
Stephan

Re: Which car to get?

Agreed on the fact that sports cars are likely to be ragged upon, which is why I'd have to go for a pretty low mileage one. To answer the question of what I want, or don't want, I'm looking for something a fair amount quicker than the average car OR something that gets good mileage and still have a ...

Sloppy steering-how to fix?

As may be the case with lots of Sweptlines, my steering is pretty loose, especially noticable at highway speeds. I don't think any of the ball joints or kingpins are loose or worn out, which leaves only the steering box, correct? Is there any way help this problem asides from getting a new/rebuilt s...

bought 3.23s!

I ordered 3.23 third member for my truck yesterday and it should come in later this week. I'm pretty excited about getting better mileage and being able to cruise at 70 confortably. Has anyone here changed out the thrid member before? I'm not worried about it, but if anyone has any helpful hints, I'...
