Shocks or Coilovers?
Longtime, guys, but my propane powered Sweptline is back on the road and I need some advice. Years ago I removed leaves front and back to lower, but now it rides like a buckboard, and I am getting old. Do you think coilovers would be worth the investment and put some spring back into her ride, or sh...

Re: Feels like steering disengages completely....
My problem ended up being a loose pinch bolt on the pitman arm. The bolt was stipped in places and when I replaced it the problem went away.

Thanx, Digdoug. Kinda what we were thinking, but wanted to eliminate other possibilities first.

Re: Feels like steering disengages completely....
Done that, OK. In fact, I put a couple of big washers on both sides of that rubber puck--drilled corrresponding holes--to shore things up.

Feels like steering disengages completely....
So I've lowered my /6 Sweptline by flattening the springs. New (couple months old) steering box. Rest is stock. Generally on turns, but sometimes randomly, I get a feeling in the steering wheel like there is nothing there at all--complete disconnection. My brother-in-law describes it as feeling like...

Re: Power Steering Conversion Finished
Great thread, Steve. Can't wait to see it in person. Does the collar on the upper part of the pitman arm (the part that attaches to the steering box) keep it far enough away from the frame that you didn't have to grind the heads on the bolts holding the box to the frame?
Impressed as usual,
Joe

Re: What's in YOUR steering box?
Thanks, Walt. The question got a bit moot when I opened up the new steering box and it was full of blue grease. Guess I'll be going w/ that for a while.

Hobcobble--
So that's just regular old grease???? I'll check my manual, too. There's such a variety of answers out there. Are you using multi-purpose grease?
Thanks,
Joe

What's in YOUR steering box?
I've got a new one on the way and would appreciate input. I've heard of people using 90w, white grease, and someone once even the black chassis grease.
What say you all?
Thanks,
Joe

Hotfoot was quoting cab width. Track width is around 61" or so. Way too skinny for a D100.

The other one I bought is better, but still not 100%. Do you have an axle w/ kingpin holes in excellent shape for sale?
