Re: Ford 9 inch?

In response to Mountain Mopar, previous response to this......Exactly right Robin! Outside the box! Thinking and doing! That is why I have a Ford 9" 3.0:1 out of a passenger car installed into a 51 B3B Dodge Pilothouse 1/2 ton pickup.........which is behind the stock L-head/3 speed; gearing and crui...

Re: A833 overdrive swap

Stephan.......I did an A833 OD swap on my 70 sweptline long wheel-base. That was around March. I pretty much posted the decision to do it, questions, and the result on this forum around that time. In the engine-driveline section, what I wrote is under transmission swap, Irish70. My end result was we...

Re: Ford 9 inch?

I bolted a 61-71 Ford 9" 3.0:1 into my 51 Dodge B3B pilothouse for better cruising gears. Don't regret it. Ford might be similar to Dodge in design, and noted there are differences. I am not an authority, don't profess to be. My experience remembers the Ford being easier to work on or disassemble. T...

Re: front disc brake conversion for 61-71 D100

All 4 of you (John, Doug, Matt) are on the right wave length, with Cliff's message summarizing general information I also found through Robin in Denver. Other information indicates AAJBrake (Portland,OR) has a kit available.....Done business with him before, so a follow upis in order there. Another ...

front disc brake conversion for 61-71 D100

Current issue (May, '08) of CLASSIC TRUCKS has an article (pgs 81-87) by Brad Gigliotti, apparently living somewhere in central California or greater Bay Area, who contributed this chronicle of sorts about his experience installing disc brakes on his 1967 D100 sweptline, having a straight front axel...

Re: transmission swap

Finale of this production; final curtain call. Tach installed. @ 55 mph in OD (4th gear), engine is turning 1700-1800 rpm; @65 in OD, 1900-2000 rpm.......actual recordings. I have not had it on the freeway at 75 with the tach working, but I have no problems on the open road maintaining a constant 75...

Re: transmission swap

Got the transmission in and operating; got some results back. More than satisfied with the performance, now that the A-833 overdrive is a reality. Speedometer is accurate enough to establish some reliable results. Speedo checked by several neighborhood/school zone speed monitors, right on the money;...

Re: transmission swap

To clarify how I spent $1000; actually I think the tally will be about $975 at final end.......no shadetree here.....too cold out and snow lying around. The dollars spent includes all parts, labor, taxes. In it was an aluminum bellhouse, the trans as described, a new flywheel, a complete new clutch ...

Re: transmission swap

All the conjecture on this topic, the advice pro and con......very valuable, a very much appreciated discussion on the topic about a month ago......is now really for naught. I made a decision to procede with my projected undertaking, eliminating the NP-435 in favor of a full synchronized NP A-833 OD...

Re: transmission swap

First, I stand corrected. The new process transmission Rodger mentioned is apparently a NP-445; these came in the full size van with a V-6 or a V-8, years somewhere around the early 80s, from what I could find. Second, a stroke of luck across the street from where I live. There is a commercial repai...

Re: transmission swap

Note for tuffstuff.....on his trans swap 3-sp to 4-sp behind his 225 slant-6 My 70 318 is set up the same as your vehicle: Lt235/75R15 tires, 3.55 differential......behind a 4 speed. My 4-speed is the OEM new process trans (NP-435) with the granny low. What trans did you use in your 4-speed conversi...

Re: transmission swap

Thanks again, OleRed66. Sounds like the first necessary business is for me to install a tachometer. Got to find the running RPM range that exists not as currently equipped. Right? Known facts are that this is a NP435 trans, my differential is a 3.55.......as specified on the manufacturer plate. I am...

transmission swap

I have a 70 D100.....318 2bbl, 4 speed 435 trans, 3.55:1 differential gears. The original set up (above) was intended for industrial use. My idea is to replace the transmission with a more favorable unit gears oriented for the highway driving and fuel economy. A professional engineer (experienced wi...

In response to MountainMoparMan (Robin).......Phil in Longmont, @ work with idle time. Also I am back at Blakes (older Toyota pu's and parts available) where I have access to search. I...
