Re: Need expert brake help

It does work. It actually feels spongy now, because there is air in the system. But I can drive it, and pump the brakes and they get better. I didnt have that before. I can actually feel the booster working. The rod (which is the one I had to make) is threaded in, but that seal or rubber gasket just...

Re: Need expert brake help (solved, sort of)

So I dug into the brakes today, and figured out the issue. I have been a victim of getting what I paid for. Time and time again I learn the hard lesson of buying cheap parts from vendors who dont care about you, your project or your safety. So, the master cylinder has a casting number of 227161, mak...

Re: Suspension

Not sure if you have a 2 or 4 wheel drive. Assuming its a 2x4, some go with a crown vic swap, some do a frame clip swap and some go with an aftermarket IFS. Each of these have their strengths and weaknesses, and there are plenty of articles about these swaps. If its a 4x4 Im not sure how to help. I ...

Re: Need expert brake help

So I worked on it a little today. I got the timing set to 10 degrees, and the vacuum at idle went to about 17-ish inches. I would have to go to probably 11 or 12 degrees to get 18 inches of vacuum. The brakes are not really any better, even if I rev the engine a bit or drive it, which would increase...

Re: Need expert brake help

Yep, pulling the check valve causes the engine to die. I borrowed a vacuum gauge from a friend, and it pulls about 15" of vacuum (mercury) at idle, which is about 800 rpm. The gauge says its timing, but Im not really sure about that. I set it at about 8-9 degrees, which is what I had read I needed t...

Re: Need expert brake help

So I did a little checking. I started by hitting the brakes when the truck was cold, then starting it, and trying again. The pedal feels the same in both situations. I checked for vacuum at the booster, and it has it going in (im not sure how much, Im going to get a gauge), and there is a valve that...

Re: Need expert brake help

Another thing I need to check is the proportioning valve. Its a PV-2, so it could be tripped to the front or the back, and not providing pressure to both. And Ill also have to check the vacuum. I think I read online that it needs 18" of vacuum at idle, so Ill look at that, but its going to be a few ...

Re: Need expert brake help

Sorry its been a few days. I have been crazy busy and couldnt get back on the truck. Good catch on the shoes being backwards. I didnt see that at all. Only the passenger side was wrong, the drivers side was okay. I changed the shoes around, and re-adjusted them. I also put the other new parts in, th...

Re: Need expert brake help

I have an adjustable valve for the rear brakes, I just havent adjusted it yet. Ill change the shoes around this weekend if I can, and see if that helps. Hopefully itll fix the park brake problem as well.

Need expert brake help

So the truck is running good. A few annoying issues Ill address one at a time, but it works pretty good for now. I noticed a rubbing noise in the back, so I investigated and found the problem. Pictures are below. The rearend has a casting number of 2881489, and a quick google search shows this to be...

Power steering brackets

After getting Isaacs truck on the road, I discovered its going to need power steering. I can barely get the truck out of the driveway. My idea is to get a factory pump for the engine, and upgrade the mustang 2 rack to a power unit. The engine is an '85 318. I think I know what I need, but I need hel...

Re: Electric Fan

Not sure if this will help, but when I bought my radiator they sold shrouds and fans as well, and they had a handy chart to show how much cfm flow you needed, by horsepower and options such as automatic and A/C. See if you can find one of those charts. It takes the guess work out.

Its not just here. On another forum, there were 11 registered users, and 1150+ guests. The busiest forum I go to has 96 registered users, and 2024 guests. I was going to suggest it might be the noticeable increase in interest for older trucks, but thats not it. Weird.

Might be google spiders or bots. I have been moderator and even admin on other forums, and the google spiders and bots are always through the roof. I agree about the facebook pages. I dont have facebook, but my wife does, and there is a ton of stuff available if you are shopping, and you can get it ...

Re: NP435 questions

I got it. Thanks guys. I took the cover off, and realized there are 2 forks on the cover, one in the middle and one at the back. After looking and fitting a few times, the biggest gear at the rear of the transmission, was not in its place. The rear fork has little guides on it, that need to be insid...

Re: NP435 questions

Thats what gave it away that I have an issue. I am sure I am in neutral, but the truck will move if I release the clutch. And it seems to not want to move when I am in 1st or reverse. I read on a Bronco forum (yeah I know, but it came up during a google search for NP435s) a guy had the exact same is...

Re: NP435 questions

First is up at the dash, Im sure. But the truck bogs when Im in first, or reverse. And I tried several times to find neutral, and it seems to be in neutral. Its just not acting the way I expect. Ive driven manuals before, and old farm trucks, so this shouldnt be out of my wheel house. I think I have...

NP435 questions

So, I got Isaacs truck started today. I noticed when pushing it out of the garage, the engine was turning, and I was sure it was in neutral. No biggie, just adjust the clutch rod a little more, but that didnt seem to help. Idling, I cant release the clutch because it starts to roll forward. So, then...

Re: Engine advice

So I knew the 4th gear was 1:1 on both, but I had no idea how that would work with this truck. Im not sure what rear gear I have, but I think we guessed its close to a 3.90:1 in the build thread, and it has 28" tall tires. I might lower it a little when I put a new center section in. This rearend is...
