Re: New W200 owner needs tires.

Here’s what it’ll look like with original 16 inch split rims, and some Coker tire skinny traxion big lug bias plys.
If you’re going for bad @#% vintage look,…can’t beat the original set up. It always turns heads.

And yes to danger, but only if you’re careless. To really use a gear driven winch you need two people. And they need to communicate,…well. Good luck on your purchase and subsequent conversion. It’ll be cool looking even if you don’t use it for real.

Speedo Cable 66 W200

My 66 W200 has no speedo cable. It came to me without one. The truck had a factory automatic and was changed to a Four speed at some point. Dunno if that means anything or not, but it also had a Stewart warner gear reduction in the box of junk that came with it. There is a place for the speedo cable...

Re: Monroe shocks

Yes, my local expert guy also said the springs were pretty flat originally. It helped with the ride, and with that straight axle, I guess they needed all the help they could get. I’m gonna pull em and see how hard it is to get bushings back in there. I wonder where I can get those? If I can’t find e...

Re: Monroe shocks

All good suggestions. Yes, I will get them warmed up before balancing. The other thing I didn’t mention is although brand new, they sat for a long time on the truck,…like two years. Sooo,…I’m thinking they’ve taken quite a “set”. I pulled the trunnions today and they’re fine. I did go ahead and orde...

Re: Monroe shocks

I went with a vintage look tire. Bias ply, tubed, traction lug, and skinny, sixteen inch original split rims. I wanted the old look. Gonna go and get the wheels balanced tomorrow and also stop by NAPA and see my guy. He should be able to figure out the shocks since you think there might be some lite...

Monroe shocks

Would anyone know the modern stock number that would be the old Monroe number 4101? I just pulled the front shocks off my 1966 W200 and that’s what was on there. One is fine, the other is kinda weak. This thing was a municipal snow plow and had a lot of mods,…most just shade tree practical stuff lik...

Re: Numbers on the firewall?

What are the last two digits of the VIN? I know that early Porsche would scrawl/stamp/note the last two or three digits of the VIN in an inconspicuous place on the panels so that when the fitment was done, and the panels were sent to paint they’d be able to match up with the right body. Maybe they h...

Re: original paint code location

In restoring a different car a while back there was a major debate in the community about what a particular known color was actually looking like. The name, and color code was known. It was a Reuter (German) company name and code. My car was in that color from the factory and the factory build sheet...

Re: Horn location

It is as I figured,…gone. I looked everywhere. But i did find the horn wire in the steering wheel and traced it down to a dead end taped off inside the front grill. So,…mystery solved. I had to pull the steering wheel and clean the little roller contactor and the landing where the spring goes. Now t...

Resurrecting an old thread here. I am in Auburn also and just now am getting my truck ready for the road. Wondering if you made progress on getting yours straightened out. We’re on the North side of auburn, on pear tree road. Maybe we can commiserate, haha.

Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?

Here’s the tag I just pulled off my 66 W200. The trans is not original because the date doesn’t add up and the other door plate says it had a different trans. What you thought might be the part number is likely a serial number? My guess is because if it was a part number wouldn’t it be the same as y...

Horn location

Super silly question but where exactly is the horn located on a 66 W200? I’m getting my truck ready for the road and today was looking to get the horn working. And,…..I can’t find it. This truck used to be a municipal snow plow/salt spreader truck. I wonder if the horn got damaged and they tossed it...

Re: How to clamp air filter housing

Thanks for the info. That’s what I suspected,…and that link helps a lot. If nobody has an air cleaner assembly to sell me I’ll likely make one of those clamps. I think if I slit a length of 1/4 inch soft copper pipe with a cut off wheel and open it up a bit, flatten the ends into flanges, drill some...

How to clamp air filter housing

Hey there,…I have gotten my 66 W200 going and am readying it for Home Depot runs. I am missing the air cleaner housing. It has the Stromberg two barrel on it and it runs fine. Problem is,…there is no mounting stud, nor a provision for one. I guess the original housing clamped on the carb throat some...

Spindle nut mystery Dana 60

I am having trouble with something simple. You’d think I could find something as common as the Spindle nut washer for my 66 W200 pretty easily online. No dice. I’ve seen what seems like every picture of every other spindle nut washer,...but not the one I’m needing. Everyone wants to sell me the “new...
